The Machine Tool Technology program is designed to prepare individuals for employment in the industry as machinists. Students in the Machine Tool Technology program manufacture, assemble, and repair metal parts, subassemblies, and complete machines. Increasingly, the machines used to produce these metal parts are numerically controlled and most of those are computer numerically controlled (CNC). Graduates earn The Machine Tool Technology Associate in Science Degree.
Basic metal and plastic machine operators adjust machines to control speed, material feed, and path of the cut, and ensure the machines are set up and operating properly. Courses will cover machine blueprint reading, machine shop safety, theory and practice in lathe and milling machines, and use of standards, such as the Machinery’s Handbook.
This program builds on the skills attained in the Manufacturing Technology BC. Students learn more advanced CNC operational skills, CNC G code programming and Computer Aided Drafting. Students will have extensive hands on time operating the CNC lathes, mills other CNC machine tools including CNC fabrication equipment to gain confidence in their operation and programming skills. CNC machining is utilized extensively in industry and operators of this equipment are highly sought after.
Learn areas of comfort cooling including basic air conditioning and heating theory; heating fundamentals and appliances; requirements and controls; circuits, thermostats; schematics, and communications. Includes hands-on instruction in brazing copper piping and fittings. Designed as the first of a two-course program.
Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
The Welding Technology curriculum provides students with a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metalworking industry.Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes. Courses may include math, print reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing providing the student with industry-standard skills developed through classroom training and practical application.Graduates of the Welding Technology curriculum may be employed as entry-level technicians in the welding and metalworking industries. Career opportunities also exist in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, and welding-related self-employment.
The welding technology and AWS-3F certification preparation certificate provides students with the skills necessary to pass one of the three categories the American Welding Society AWS-3F certifications, and the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level employment in a variety of industries that utilize welding. You may choose to continue your education by applying the credits earned in this program to the Basic Welding Certificate, Welding Operator One-Year Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology.
The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology curriculum provides the basic knowledge to develop skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial systems.Topics include mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls, and safety. The diploma program covers air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, tools, and instruments. In addition, the AAS degree covers residential building codes, residential system sizing, and advanced comfort systems.Diploma graduates should be able to assist in the start-up, preventive maintenance, service, repair, and/or installation of residential and light commercial systems. AAS degree graduates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of system selection and balance and advanced systems.
This course was developed with input from local companies and covers a range of topics to provide students with the basic knowledge for entry-level employment in the manufacturing industry. The 84-hour course consists of approximately 24 sessions and presents topics such as basic hand tools, shop mathematics and industry terminology. Introduction topics include manufacturing processes, problem solving, and team work. This course will also offer all participants a 10-hour General OSHA certification, and completion certificate, upon successful completion of class.
The purpose of the Welding Technology program is to provide accessible, quality educational opportunities that will provide individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the welding profession.The diploma and certificates programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level structural and / or pipe welders. Program graduates are to be competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations and in the technical areas of cutting processes, blueprint reading, SMAW and GMAW structural welding and SMAW and GTAW pipe welding to AWS standards.Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of Welding Technology.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The term “Advanced Manufacturing Technology” is used to describe flexible manufacturing systems that use innovative technology to improve the design and manufacture of products and processes. The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program will teach you how these systems – using robotic and transport-based automation including modular work cells: assembly stations, storage locations, machining centers, welding centers and painting stations – play out in the product, from design to manufacture to delivery to the customer. Each student will acquire an overview of how a complete system is tied together to produce high quality product at a low cost.Areas of Degree Emphasis:*EngineeringMechatronicsRobotics Pathway*If a degree emphasis is selected, Advanced Manufacturing Technology A.S. degree requirements will be met using specific courses that also provide training in that sub-specialty.
