This associate degree program will equip students to pursue career options ranging from electrical system technology, fiber optic installations, PLCs (programmable logic controllers), and field operation. Students will work with faculty that possess industrial experience, which is shared in the classroom. Several design projects are incorporated into every course to apply real-world as well as virtual software applications to knowledge acquired.
Job Corps’ Machining training program teaches students skills like crafting metal and other materials into machine parts, interpreting detailed drawings or files, such as blueprints, sketches, and those for computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), setting up, operating and disassembling manual, automatic and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, and monitoring the feed and speed of machines. These skills prepare students for a career working for or manufacturing companies, plants or small machine shops. Machinists craft metal and other materials into machine parts and may work with tools operated by computer systems. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Machining training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Prepare for an exciting career in industries that design, build, and install metal products. This hands-on program equips students with the skills needed to work with sheet, plate, and structural materials, leading to opportunities as welders, fabrication machinery operators, or industrial maintenance technicians. Students gain expertise in metal fabrication processes, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), plasma cutting, and more. The program also offers industry-recognized certifications, including the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Card, Forklift Operation, and Customer Service, ensuring graduates are job-ready for high-demand roles in the field.

This 336-hour course is designed to teach students how to interpret blueprints, perform shop math calculations, work with precisionmeasurements and measuring tools, set-up and complete projects on both traditional lathes and mills as well as Computer NumericalControl (CNC) machines, perform basic and advanced machining operations, and make decisions to ensure that work quality ismaintained.The curriculum is designed to prepare students for employment in entry-level positions, such as machine setup, operation, andprogramming while providing the fundamental knowledge and skills required to become an expert Machinist. This training alsoteaches students attention to detail, the ability to work to close tolerances, the skills to improve their mechanical aptitude, and how tosolve mechanical challenges by working through logical steps. Shop safety, including OSHA-10 Certification Training, and good shopwork practices, including routine machine shop maintenance activities are also covered. The tuition for this class coversdesignated reading materials and lab fees and a student tool kit. Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Programming trains students to be entry-level Junior Programmers I. Working under the supervision of a senior programmer, Junior Programmers (or Programmer Trainees) develop program structure charts/logic plans; code, debug, and test programs written in a high-level language; and prepare program documentation. Junior Programmers may be assigned tasks such as modifying existing programs and system design projects, analyzing systems, flow charting, input/output design, and system documentation. While focusing on programming concepts and languages, it also provides a fundamental core knowledge of data including advanced spreadsheets, Microsoft access, and Oracle databases with SQL (Structured Query Language). It is anticipated that a student will begin study the summer after their high school graduation. The degree can be completed sooner or take longer, depending on a student's particular course load. The capstone course for the AAS Degree in Computer Programming is ITSC 2381, Cooperative Education - Computer and Information Sciences, General II.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Job Corps’ Electrical training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. These skills prepare students for jobs as electricians across industries, including in the construction, manufacturing or engineering industries. Students who complete the Electrical training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Manufacturing Option is a comprehensive program that aims to provide future technicians with the tools and knowledge needed for success in the advanced manufacturing field. The program helps students build a solid foundation in the use of tools and labor to make products for use/sale. In this program, manufacturing may refer to a vast range of human activity, from handicraft to high tech, applied to the industrial production that transforms raw materials into finished goods through large-scale manufacturing processes. Students also learn how to develop new products with manufacturing technology in mind. The program enables students to gain an understanding of manufacturing process statistics; statistical process control; management and manufacturing control systems; and professional responsibility. The capstone course for the AAS Degree is INMT 2280, Cooperative Education-Manufacturing Technology/Technician.
