Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
This pathway is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree in aerospace engineering. Requirements vary among institutions. The following program is a composite of the requirements of the first two years of the baccalaureate degree at most four-year institutions. Students should have successfully completed a minimum of four units of high school mathematics, including trigonometry, and three units of science in biology, physics and chemistry.
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

YCCC’s Trade and Technical Operations degree gives apprentices and journeymen official recognition within their trade. An Associate’s degree highlights your apprenticeship accomplishments and indicates true proficiency and employability.
The Industrial Automation certificate provides upgrading of skills for those presently employed in industry as automation, instrument, and electrical technicians. In addition, the certificate is an excellent way to build basic skills for those who want to enter these fields. The curriculum is based on the skills required to troubleshoot and maintain PLC, Instrumentation, and Data Acquisition systems. Students are encouraged to pursue the Control System Technician Associate exam (CST) upon completion of this certificate. High school graduate reading and writing skills are expected, as development of technical reports and use of technical manuals are required in these courses. Math skills should include practical knowledge of algebra, basic trigonometry and geometry.Credits earned may be applied toward the Electrical Engineering Technology (A.A.S.) degree.Courses in each level (Foundation, Core and Advanced Track) must be completed prior to advancing to the next level. Where more than one course is offered within a level, courses may be taken in any sequence.
Electrician Technology is a one-year certificate program that teaches students to install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical devices and equipment. Students are exposed to the regulations of residential and commercial wiring and renewable energy.This program provides the 576 hours of education needed to meet the licensing requirements of the State of Maine and, upon successful completion of the program and 4,000 hours in the field of electrical installations, the State of Maine Electrician Examining Board will allow the student to sit for the journeyman electrician examination.
The purpose of the Welding Technology program is to provide accessible, quality educational opportunities that will provide individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the welding profession.The diploma and certificates programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level structural and / or pipe welders. Program graduates are to be competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations and in the technical areas of cutting processes, blueprint reading, SMAW and GMAW structural welding and SMAW and GTAW pipe welding to AWS standards.Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of Welding Technology.
The Mechanical Design Program prepares students to enter employment as an engineering technician. This program includes instruction in the topics of CAD, parametric design, engineering graphics, geometric dimensioning, and tolerances. Additional topics include manufacturing materials and processes, mechanical components, blueprint reading, and technical communication. Several of the most popular CAD engineering graphics software products are incorporated in this program including SolidWorks, Pro-E, Inventor, Catia, NX, and AutoCAD. Students are offered the opportunity to take the Certified SolidWorks Associate level exam. Mechanical Designers prepare detailed drawings based on rough sketches and specifications. They also calculate the strength, quantity, and cost of materials. Engineering Technicians control engineering changes and design modifications to existing components and assemblies. The College has incorporated into the Mechanical Design program, the latest information and techniques in computer aided design (CAD) and parametric modeling. A Maker Lab that has lasers, scanners, 3D printers, and CNC equipment is available to give students the most up-to-date training available and to maximize their employment opportunities.
The Applied Engineering Technology program curriculum leads to an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and prepares students for employment in a range of scientific technology occupations and also provides a foundation for transfer to four-year technology programs.
