The Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Certificate of Achievement consists of technical courses geared toward the rapid completion of a core set of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and CAM skills. The student will acquire the CNC set-up and programming competencies that are required to support the advanced metalworking industry. The student will complete several hands-on, machining programming exercises using our authentic, industrial-sized CNC mills and lathes. Current laboratory equipment includes Bridgeport VMCs and HAAS slant bed lathes in addition to our new HAAS office lathe and mill small capacity CNC machines. The current programming environment includes the latest versions of MasterCAM and SolidWorks applications.
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Welding Technology certificate program prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in the welding industry. Emphasis is placed on learning OSHA safety practices for industrial environments and developing advanced skills in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Oxy-Fuel Cutting/Welding/Brazing (OFCWB), Plasma Cutting (PAC), Air Carbon Arc (CAC-A) Gouging, Pipe Welding, interpretation of prints and welding symbols, and inspection and testing of welds. This curriculum provides students the opportunity to gain hands-on skills working in a welding shop where the skills taught in class may be applied in a variety of positions within the welding industry. This certificate may be completed at the Harrisburg Campus through on-campus/in-person instruction.

The Structural Welding Certificate is an intermediate welding program continuation after students earn the Rising Welder Level 1I Certificate. The additional certificate demonstrates students are at a higher Intermediate level in both Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Precision Machining is a comprehensive 6-month trades course designed to prepare students for careers in the machining industry. The curriculum covers essential skills including blueprint reading, precision measurement, basic and advanced manual machining, CNC programming and operation using G&M code, and CAD/CAM design with Fusion 360.The program emphasizes both technical proficiency and workplace readiness, helping students develop the interpersonal skills necessary for professional success. Students earn three industry-recognized credentials, along with a Precision Machining Certificate of Completion from C-TEC.With 80% of the training delivered through hands-on experience, students gain practical, real-world skills. Additionally, we support and encourage motivated individuals to pursue further certifications during or after the course to enhance their career opportunities.
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, also known as TIG or Heli-Arc, is the most technically demanding process. TIG welding is a two-handed process. Utilize multiple joint designs and base metal types using the GTAW process in accordance with American Welding Society specifications.
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Industrial Maintenance Technology program prepares students for a broad range of industrial maintenance related careers using industry-guided curriculum combined with practical hands-on labs. First year studies include hand & power tools, precision measurement, fasteners, mechanical drawings, machine components, electrical circuits & prints, mechanical power transmission, machining, piping, robotics, rigging, pneumatics & hydraulics. During the second year, students learn pumps & compressors, PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers), electric motors & transformers, electric motor controls, and troubleshooting industrial maintenance equipment. Students gain experience and skills in many industrial subjects so they enter industry as a multi-craft, skilled-trades professional. Students learn to think critically and apply their knowledge to solve problems on the plant and factory floor. Students learn employability skills and how to successfully work in teams. This program produces what today’s industry requires: a college educated multi-skilled professional to successfully tackle the 21st century industrial environment. Students have the option of an alternate 2nd year emphasis in Advanced Manufacturing Technology. This encompasses computer-integrated manufacturing and automation, and Industry 4.0/IIoT (the Industrial Internet of Things). Marketable skills for this award include: building effective relationships, critical thinking, customer service, and technical skills.
Mechanical Engineering Technology gives you the skills and knowledge to do just that. Program graduates take engineers' innovative ideas and transform them into products. Mechanical engineering technicians take a concept from theory to reality by using the latest software in industry to create the technical drawings used in the production process.
