This program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. Through this 10-hour course, participants can attend classes delivered by OSHA-authroized trainers and earn an OSHA 10-hour card for general industry. The classes will be held at Calhoun Community College in the Center for Business and Industry Training (CBIT) in Decatur, AL
The Welding Technology program at MCC provides you with the opportunity to learn a variety of technical skills and expands your knowledge of industry norms. Training is informed by theory and built on an academic foundation that includes mathematics and communication.
The term “Advanced Manufacturing Technology” is used to describe flexible manufacturing systems that use innovative technology to improve the design and manufacture of products and processes. The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program will teach you how these systems – using robotic and transport-based automation including modular work cells: assembly stations, storage locations, machining centers, welding centers and painting stations – play out in the product, from design to manufacture to delivery to the customer. This opportunity provides individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, values, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry- level employment in the electrical, electronics, or computer fields.The associate degree and certificate programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level industrial electricians, electronics technicians, or computer industry technicians. Program graduates are competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations. Technical areas include electronics circuit repair, industrial electrical wiring, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, computer system operation, and set up and repair. Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of industrial electronics. The occupational skill preparation should meet recognized skill standards. The college will ensure program quality through internal certification of graduate competencies.

Job Corps’ Advanced Welding training program teaches students advanced skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures, including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students who complete Advanced Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Associate in Science (AS-T) transfer degree is designed to prepare mechanical, civil, aeronautical, and industrial engineering majors for transfer to a four-year institution with junior standing. The AS-T transfer degree will generally provide the transferring student with at least 110 credits upon entry to a four-year institution. This transfer degree will satisfy some, but not all, of the general education requirements at the receiving institution. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 120 credits as outlined.
The Electrical Technologies (ET) program, available at the Dallas Metro campus only, containsseven (7) phase term courses, 30 weeks, and 28 semester credit hours. The objective of the ETprogram is to train and prepare students for entry-level or trainee positions in the residential,commercial, and industrial electrical industry. Students completing this program shouldhave an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles, residential and commercialwiring applications, voice, video, and data cabling systems, the application of motors,lighting, and devices that control them as well as exposure to various types of transformers.Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Students in Tooling and Manufacturing Technology will learn both the soft skills and technical skills needed to be a successful technician. Soft skills include teamwork, problem solving, quality principles and communication skills. Technical skills (based on National Skill Standards) include manufacturing principles, metallurgy, welding, quality assurance, machine shop, CNC programming, and technical mathematics. Graduates of this certificate program are prepared to become certified skilled tradespeople. These positions often pave the way for careers in manufacturing, tool and die, mold making, and precision machining. This program offers the following features: Challenge exams are available for most courses. Advanced-standing credits are available for many high school students. Work experience can be gained through co-op classes. Enrollment may be part-time or full-time, days or nights.
