Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The Certificate of Completion in Computer Programming trains students to become entry-level junior programmers. Working under the supervision of a senior programmer, the junior programmer (sometimes referred to as a programmer trainee) develops program structure charts and logic plans; codes, debugs, and tests programs written in high-level language; and prepares program documentation. The capstone course for the Certificate of Completion in Entry-Level Computer Programming is ITSC 2380, Cooperative Education-Computer and Information Sciences, General I.
The term “Advanced Manufacturing Technology” is used to describe flexible manufacturing systems that use innovative technology to improve the design and manufacture of products and processes. The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program will teach you how these systems – using robotic and transport-based automation including modular work cells: assembly stations, storage locations, machining centers, welding centers and painting stations – play out in the product, from design to manufacture to delivery to the customer. Each student will acquire an overview of how a complete system is tied together to produce high quality product at a low cost.Areas of Degree Emphasis:*EngineeringMechatronicsRobotics Pathway*If a degree emphasis is selected, Advanced Manufacturing Technology A.S. degree requirements will be met using specific courses that also provide training in that sub-specialty.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Advanced Manufacturing is designed to provide learners with growth and development in a variety of manufacturing processes, to expose them to materials and methods of production, make them aware of quality systems and tools and introduce them to tool and die making. This degree is designed to enable individuals the opportunity to continually expand and upgrade their applied skills as well as to maintain a thorough mastery of evolving manufacturing technologies. Protective shop clothing and eye protection supplies are required for the program, and will be purchased by the student.
The Certificate of Completion in Mechanic Technician prepares individuals for employment as Mechanic Technicians in commercial and industrial fields. The program provides a solid foundation in basic electrical principles; motors and controls; schematics; troubleshooting of complex electrical systems; hydraulics and pneumatics; and mechanical systems. Additionally, the program prepares students to take the Fluid Power and Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) Certification exams. The capstone course for this Certificate of Completion is INMT 2345, Industrial Troubleshooting.
Both the CAS and AAS provide students the training necessary to enter the field of electrical wiring in residential, commercial, and industrial construction sites. Upon successful completion of the first two semesters, the student has met the requirements for the CAS. Successful completion of all four semesters meets the requirement for the AAS. Graduates are eligible for advanced placement into a registered apprentice position.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toAnalyze, configure, troubleshoot, and assist in designing and measuring electrical and electronic circuits and systems;Relate the National Electrical Code to wiring designs and explain how that design ensures safety;Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of three-phase and single-phase systems;Determine the proper grounding techniques to employ for various electrical devices and installations;Communicate clearly and effectively in speaking and writing with peers, engineers, teams, and customers using appropriate technologies including audio, visual, and graphic;Synthesize the theory and operation of transformers with single- and three-phase connections and alternating current machines; andDemonstrate the assembly and installation of photovoltaic systems.

This program is provided to meet the demands for an emerging technical workforce and is a direct response to local workforce and industry demand. Therefore, implementation of this program will expand employment and educational opportunities for area citizens.
The Manufacturing Technology program is designed to develop a multi-craft technician trained to diagnose and repair a variety of problems occurring with electrical and mechanical systems found in today’s high tech manufacturing and industrial environments. Students will be trained to perform preventative and predictive maintenance on a variety of systems to include but not limited to electric, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical power transmission.This program is designed to prepare individuals to perform diagnostic, repair, and maintenance functions on industrial production, automation and robotics equipment. Students completing the Manufacturing Technology program will be required to participate in third party credentialing from NOCTI and OSHA. Students enrolled in the Manufacturing Technology program will also have the opportunity to apply to the East Alabama Industrial Consortium for participation in the Industrial Maintenance Internship Program.
The Automated Systems Technology - Mechatronics program is a field of study that focuses on the integration of mechanical, electrical (electronics), fluid power (hydraulics or pneumatics), and computer technologies to control machine movements. The new term for this is “Mechatronics.” The students’ studies begin with courses in mechanics, sensors, basic electronics, pneumatics, control logic and robot programming and control. The student goes on to learn how to program a specific Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and then writes and troubleshoots programs to control different types of industrial machines. Students will learn soldering skills, schematic diagram reading, advanced programming of PLCs, Robots, and Network systems.
