The Pre‑Engineering program is designed to provide students with the basic competencies, knowledge, and skills required to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in Engineering.
This certificate teaches beginning and intermediate welding students the principles and practices of gas metal arc and flux cored arc welding in preparation for entry into the welding fields of manufacturing, construction, transportation and maintenance.
This program provides graduates with a well-rounded education in basic manufacturing processes and progresses them through multiple manufacturing concepts to more advanced automation skills including industry 4.0 concepts. All students will experience a core curriculum focused on the foundational skills in manufacturing processes including precision measuring, blueprint reading quality control, and basic design concepts.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Technological advancements have revolutionized the design process in American industry. Engineering design technicians use CAD (computer-aided drafting) to create detail drawings and working plans for the process piping design, mechanical/manufacturing design and architectural design industries. It is from these CAD drawings that the conceptualization of an idea or design is transformed into a produced product. Students entering into the program can choose one of three industry paths as their focus of study; Process Piping Design, Mechanical Design or Architecture Design. The Engineering Design Technology program provides students the opportunity to study and learn 2D and 3D design, solid modeling methods and standards used in the production of drawings for these industries. After successful completion of the two-year program, the student receives the Associate of Applied Science Degree, Engineering Design Technology. Graduates are encouraged to apply for the award of Computer Aided Drafting Certificate of Proficiency as well. This program prepares Engineering Design Technology graduates to enter the workforce as work ready, entry level engineering design technicians. Students choosing a focus of Process Piping Design will study and learn the design processes, industry standards and procedures used in the production of 2D and 3D piping drawings. They will also be exposed to the drawings, models, specifications and construction documentation used in the design, layout and construction of process piping facilities. Possible industry applications include petroleum, chemical, water and food processing plants. Students choosing a Mechanical Design focus will study and learn the drafting and design processes, with a disciplined approach to applying industry standards and procedures used in the mechanical and manufacturing industry. They will study the chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of various materials, manufacturing processes, including; 3D printing, casting, forming and machining, press fit, bolted and welded joints, and transmission components. Possible industry applications include aerospace, biomedical, consumer products, construction, defense, structural design. machine shops and manufacturing facilities. Students choosing an Architecture Design focus will study and learn the design processes, industry standards and procedures used in residential and commercial architecture design. They will learn to prepare detailed working drawings for residential and commercial structures. They will study the site and environmental considerations in planning residential and commercial developments, material usage, applying codes and standards in the creation of construction drawings, and writing specifications. Possible industry applications include residential and commercial architect firms, planners, developers, and general contractors. The EDT program also provides courses in civil design and geographic information systems and lays a solid foundation for students continued studies at the Baccalaureate level in engineering technology, industrial management or other related degrees. Students who are considering transfer to a university with a compatible Baccalaureate degree program should work with their faculty advisors to select additional General Education courses that result in the student being Core Complete. Graduating with an AAS degree alone does not make a student core complete. Marketable skills for this award include: interpersonal skills, computer skills + typing, multi-tasking, problem solving, technical skills, and detail oriented.
This program leads to an associate in applied science degree with a specialization in CAD Engineering Technology. Program graduates are encouraged to transfer to one of OCC’s four-year university partners and continue their education in Engineering Technology; however, graduates are prepared for occupations and careers in engineering and manufacturing industries. Rapid Prototyping and co-op opportunities enhance their learning experience.The CAD Engineering option focuses on design with an emphasis on concepts and applications of CAD Engineering Technologies. CAE covers subjects such as: the applications and principles of kinematics in design, concepts and techniques of finite element modeling for stress analysis / non-destructive testing, techniques and applications of solid modeling, and CNC tool path generation for CAD models.
Students can master the high-demand skills of Mechanical Assembly, Composite Fabrication or Basic Avionics. Additional coursework taken from a core set of aviation topics provides students with an in-depth perspective on the aviation industry. Topics include quality control, aerospace manufacturing and aircraft systems and components.
The Associate of Applied Science degree with a concentration in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration is designed to train the student to become an air conditioning and refrigeration technician. The student in the program learns to install and repair air conditioning and refrigeration equipment in office buildings, factories, homes, food stores, restaurants, theaters, and other establishments. The practical experiences provide proficiency in cutting pipe and repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment along with load and duct design.
Job Corps’ Advanced Marine Pipefitting training program teaches students advanced skills like installing and maintaining pipes that may carry chemicals, acids and gases, interpreting marine piping system blueprints to determine the correct components and raw materials needed to construct and install piping systems and pipe support structures, and removing hazardous materials to prevent or minimize the release of toxic, reactive, flammable or explosive debris. These skills prepare students for a career in building and maintaining boats and ships of all sizes, working in factories, processing plants, nuclear reactors or refineries, or even a fire suppression company to help install fire sprinklers. Students who complete Advanced Marine Pipefitting at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Bishop States Welding Technology program offers students an opportunity to receive a hands-on education through interactive learning, exciting courses, and distinguished faculty. Learn from industry-leading professionals and gain hands-on experience in a wide range of welding procedures including, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Gas Welding, and Robotic Welding . Using each of these procedures, students learn to weld plates in various positions including horizontal, vertical, and overhead. Students also learn various techniques for cutting and preparing metal for welding procedures. With the addition of our AAS degree students will have the opportunity to enroll in pipe welding classes, welding inspection classes and print reading classes. While enrolled at Bishop State students will have an opportunity to test for American Welding Society (AWS) certifications. The Bishop State Welding program truly is ” A Great Place to Start.” Graduates earn the Welding Technology Associate in Applied Science Degree.
This high demand industry offers careers in many areas. The purpose of the Industrial Electricity/Electronics Technology program is to provide an accessible, premium quality education. This opportunity provides individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, values, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry- level employment in the electrical, electronics, or computer fields.The associate degree and certificate programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level industrial electricians, electronics technicians, or computer industry technicians. Program graduates are competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations. Technical areas include electronics circuit repair, industrial electrical wiring, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, computer system operation, and set up and repair. Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of industrial electronics. The occupational skill preparation should meet recognized skill standards. The college will ensure program quality through internal certification of graduate competencies.
