The General Technology major allows students to select course work necessary to become multi-skilled technicians. In addition to completing the college's core curriculum, students also complete course work in at least two technical areas. The following is an example of a career path available. The secondary paths may be substituted for courses in other programs' primary path. Interested students should talk with their advisors.This program introduces students to workplace safety, blueprint reading, precision measuring, basic conventional machining and CNC operations, including set-up and programming. Students are prepared for entry-level employment in the metal- working industry.
The Robotics and Automation Technology program provides an introduction to industrial robotics and explains how they are used in automated systems. The primary focus of the program is on automated processes, the role of robots within those processes and all related support equipment. Successful completer of this program will have an advanced understanding of robot operations, programming, material handling techniques and technical system components.
The Career Studies Certificate in CNC Field Service Technician - Electrical prepares students for introductory level CNC electrical diagnostic and repair work. This program is designed for students with in-depth CNC experience.Career Opportunity: These 6 courses, 17 credit CNC Field Technician electrical program is designed for someone with previous CNC experience interested in working in field service. This program will teach students electrical diagnostic and repair skills, along with essential machine tool calibration procedures. Careers in CNC Field Service repair have an average salary of $64, 330. The field is projected to grow by 2.7% over the next 10 years. (BLS.gov)
Participants will learn how to apply GD&T to a variety of situations including your own parts. Sharpen your Geometric Tolerancing skills, fill in gaps, get your questions answered, make GD&T more useable, reduce product cost, improve datum selection and create robust designs. Learn how to use the GD&T Hierarchy. Advanced concepts on the application of profile and position as well as fixed and floating features will be discussed. Learn how to properly select datum features and allocate tolerances. Expand your knowledge of simultaneous requirements, composite tolerancing, profile tolerancing, robust design and boundary calculations.
This course will give a student the foundations in manufacturing to develop the knowledge and competencies needed in the advanced manufacturing industry. Outcomes will be to understand manufacturing as a business system that integrates multiple disciplines, processes, and stakeholders; to improve processes and schedules to meet customer requirements; to efficiently and safely manage raw materials/consumables. This program is also an approved USDOL/NYSDOL/SUNY apprenticeship skill trade.
Mechanical engineering technologists participate in the design, development, testing and manufacturing of industrial machinery, consumer products, engines and other equipment. Virginia Peninsula’s Mechanical Engineering Technology associate of applied science program emphasizes the application of scientific and engineering principles. The curriculum is grounded in math, science and engineering principles with practical lessons in computer-aided drawing and design, composite materials, hydraulics and other technical areas.
This area of study prepares students to install and maintain electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. The program combines hands on training with classroom instruction that will provide the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in the growing electrical field.

The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in CNC Engineering Technology builds on the AC in CNC Engineering Technology adding in the additional materials, Computer Aided Manufacturing and Advanced Metrology skills students need when pursuing careers in advanced manufacturing. Students in this program are looking to pursue careers leading teams and solving problems for manufacturing employers in the metal working industries that are increasingly becoming more automated and integrated with advanced technologies.
The Industrial Systems Technology curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to safely service, maintain, repair, or install equipment. Instruction includes theory and skill training needed for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial systems.Students will learn multi-craft technical skills in print reading, mechanical systems maintenance, electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics, welding, machining or fabrication, and includes various diagnostic and repair procedures. Practical application in these industrial systems will be emphasized and additional advanced coursework may be offered.Upon completion of this curriculum, graduates should be able to individually, or with a team, safely install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial process and support equipment. Students will also be encouraged to develop their skills as life-long learners.
The Electrical Technology certificate provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed within the electrical field. Residential, commercial construction, and maintenance applications and presented. Curricular coursework covers basic electrical theory, residential and commercial wiring, safety, the National Electrical Code, and blueprint reading. Students are exposed to the fundamentals of electrical systems through hands-on laboratory exercises that involve mock wiring of commercial and residential systems. This certificate may be completed at the Harrisburg and York campuses through on-campus/in-person instruction
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding - GTAW or TIG (60 hours) is for professional welders seeking specialized training in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding on materials of varying thickness and joint designs in all positions.
