The Mechatronics certificate will prepare you to work in today’s advanced manufacturing industry. Earning this certificate will provide you with detailed knowledge of machining, electrical and electronic theory as it applies to the latest technologies and skills required by manufacturers. You will learn installation, troubleshooting and maintenance for all types of electromechanical and manufacturing machinery.
Techniques and practices are introduced to assist students in welding a variety of materials (ferrous and non-ferrous) including sheet, shapes, and tube stock projects and repairs. Students also gain workplace skills such as math, communications, and business ethics.
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Welding Technology program is designed to offer students the necessary skills for entry level positions in the welding industry. There is an increasing demand for skilled welders in the fields of MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and Pipe welding.
The Professional Welder program prepares a graduate for entry-level positions in structural, pipe, and thin alloy and/or pipeline welding. Key welding processes include SMAW, MIG, TIG, High Frequency TIG, and Fluxcore. The program consists of six five-week courses for a total of 30 weeks, 25 semester credit hours, and 750 contact hours of instruction. Many new students elect the Professional Welder program because of its specialty courses and expanded welding competencies. The Professional Welder graduate acquires many skills and can branch off into various career and employment opportunities. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
This Pathway Program with a concentration in Math, Science, and Engineering is designed for those students who are still deciding which specific area within the Academic Pathway they would like to study or for those who intend to transfer in a related area for which GRCC does not offer an academic program. Students who have decided on an academic program within the Academic Pathway offered at GRCC should select that program and follow the coursework plan outlined in that program.
Welding training aligned with submarine and maritime manufacturing workforce needs. Includes structural welding, pipe welding, fabrication, blueprint reading, and shipyard safety.
This Skills Certificate is designed to provide foundational first steps for employment as an engineering technician or engineering technologist. These courses apply directly to programs leading to additional credentials, including certificates and Associate Degrees for students seeking to further their education beyond this program.
CAD designers use computer-aided drafting software to create detailed drawings and working plans for the process piping design, mechanical design, and architecture design industries. It is from these CAD drawings that the conceptualization of an idea or design is transformed into a produced product. The Engineering Design Technology: Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Certificate provides students the opportunity to study and learn 2D and 3D design, and solid modeling methods and standards used in the production of drawings for applications such as mechanical, architectural, machine, and/or process piping design. After successful completion of the one-year program, the student receives the Engineering Design Technology: Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Certificate of Proficiency, which prepares graduates to enter the workforce with a solid, technical CAD background. Graduates, however, are also encouraged to consider the opportunity to complete two more semesters of CAD training to earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Engineering Design Technology. Marketable skills for this award include: interpersonal skills, computer skills + typing, problem solving, and technical skills.
Everyone knows that Texas heat is not to be messed with, which is why becoming an air conditioning technician is a smart career decision. Our program can help you get the training you’ll need in order to capitalize on a popular industry. Our entry level certificate will provide you with the fundamentals needed to start working. You will learn how to operate, maintain, and repair air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Upon graduation, you will be ready to work in a field with a high demand for technicians. Marketable skills for this award include: building effective relationships, critical thinking, customer service, and technical skills.
This program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power wiring; and DC and AC motors, controls, and electrical distribution panels. Includes instruction in the principles of electronics and electrical systems, wiring, power transmission, safety, industrial and household appliances, job estimation, electrical testing and inspection, and applicable codes and standards.
This course is intended to teach the fundamental principles of hole-making and manual knee mill operations. Students will learn the use of both a drill press and manual mill and will practice skills associated with this equipment in a machine shop environment.
