This course provides a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to reading electrical prints and wiring control cabinets. Students will gain practical experience by assembling a complete, functional control cabinet featuring an Allen Bradley PLC and PanelView HMI with ethernet communication. The curriculum covers all aspects of panel-building, including wire termination, wire sizing, wire color coding, standard industrial connector forms and nomenclature, raceway utilization, and more. Emphasis is placed on safety, precision, and adherence to industry standards. The primary objective of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret electrical prints and proficiently wire control cabinets. Students will learn to assemble a control system from start to finish, understand and apply various wiring techniques, and ensure all work meets professional standards. The course aims to enhance students’ technical skills in wire preparation, electrical bonding, and the use of hand tools, while also providing a strong foundation in electrical theory and print reading.
Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
The Associate in Science (AS-T) transfer degree is designed to prepare computer and electrical engineering majors for transfer to a four-year institution with junior standing. The AS-T transfer degree will generally provide the transferring student with at least 111 credits upon entry to a four-year institution. This transfer degree will satisfy some, but not all, of the general education requirements at the receiving institution. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 111 credits as outlined.
Learn source determination, water distribution, waste removal, pressure adjustment, basic physics, technical math, blueprint reading, pipe installation, pumps, welding and soldering, inspection, and applicable codes and standards.
Learn to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, install, service and maintain the operating condition of heating systems. You will also learn about diagnostic techniques and the use of testing equipment; the principles of mechanics, electricity, and electronics as they relate to the repair of heating, AC and refrigeration systems. The certificate takes two years to complete, and classes may be applied toward the HVAC degree.
The Industrial Coating Application (ICA) program provides comprehensive instruction in surface preparation and coating application, with a strong focus on marine environments while remaining relevant to a broad range of industries. The program includes separate 40-hour blaster and sprayer units, allowing participants to choose training aligned with their job duties. Each completed unit qualifies candidates for a work experience hour reduction toward C7 and/or C12 certification. Emphasizing hands-on workshops and practical exercises aligned with Level 1 competencies in the NACE No. 13/SSPC-ACS 1 standard, the ICA program prepares participants with the foundational skills needed to enter the workforce and advance toward certification.
Job Corps’ Electrical training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. These skills prepare students for jobs as electricians across industries, including in the construction, manufacturing or engineering industries. Students who complete the Electrical training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Aerospace Manufacturing Technology programs include sequences of courses designed to produce an aerospace technician with multiple skill sets and a well-rounded understanding of the aerospace industry.
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Electrical Technology program is designed to help students exit the program with hands-on skills and knowledge recognized by industry partners as the key competencies to succeed in the field of instrumentation technology.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
The Welding Technology Certificate provides training in the field of industrial welding. This Certificate offers practical training and relevant theory in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux cored Arc Welding, Oxy-fuel Welding and Cutting, Plasma Cutting, as well Welding Inspection.
