Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The course is 3 weeks (120 hours) long, designed to prepare candidates to enter a career in Marine Welding at various shipyards in the region. The course will cover the basics of stick welding with the AWS certification test included on the last day of class (requires travel to Hampton). The course provides the skills necessary for entry-level employment in the ship repair industry.
The Occupational Safety and Health Construction Safety Technician Certificate was developed due to the need for trained health and safety professionals in the construction industry. This certificate is designed for individuals with current or past experience in the construction industry who are interested in taking on an expanded role focusing on construction safety. This certificate requires successful completion of a minimum of 56-59 credits as outlined.
The Professional Welder prepares a graduate for entry-level positions in structural, pipe,and thin alloy and/or pipeline welding. Key welding processes include SMAW, MIG, TIG,High Frequency TIG, and Fluxcore. The program consists of six five-week courses for a totalof 30 weeks, 25 semester credit hours, and 750 contact hours of instruction. Many of allnew students elect the Professional Welder program because of its specialty courses andexpanded welding competencies. The Professional Welder graduate acquires many skillsand can branch off into various career and employment opportunities. Upon successfulcompletion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing with a concentration in Aerospace Technology will prepare graduates for employment in aerospace and related industries through classroom and laboratory instruction in propulsion structure and assembly or welding.
The Engineering program is a two-year preparatory curriculum for students who plan to continue their education at a four-year institution and complete their major in an engineering science field.
The Electro-Mechanical Technologies (EMT) program contains nine (9) phase term courses, 38 weeks, and 36 semester credit hours. The objective of the EMT program is to train and prepare students for entry as service and maintenance technicians in jobs that utilize technologies employed in the fields of air conditioning (both heating and cooling), and refrigeration. Students completing this program should have an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles and will have practical exposure to diagnosing, servicing and repairing common types of problems in related equipment. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
You'll discover the major pitfalls of traditional coordinate tolerancing - and how they may be overcome by using Geometric Tolerancing. Then, starting with your basic print reading knowledge, you'll learn the symbols, terminology and rules of Geometric Tolerancing as prescribed in the ASME Y14.5-2009 Standard. The GD&T Hierarchy will be presented to explain the relationship between tolerances and how to most economically apply the concepts.

The Metals Fabrication and Welding Technology program provides students with a working knowledge of the various tools, equipment and modern techniques used in the metals fabrication, mechanical installation and welding industries. The proper application of various layout, fabrication and assembly techniques for specific designs in sheet metal, plate, structural metals and pipe will be stressed. Students will design, estimate, fabricate and install projects relative to air handling systems, structural and miscellaneous fabricated systems. Proper and safe work habits must be developed due to the nature of the equipment necessary to be successful in the industry.The understanding and mastery of layout techniques is an essential component for success in the Metals Fabrication and Welding fields. Therefore, disciplines in the basic, parallel line, radial line and triangulation methods of layout are covered. Also, instruction in blueprint reading relative to the manufacturing and construction industries will be required. Included are components in drafting, orthographic projection and symbol interpretation. Gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, gas tungsten arc, oxy-acetylene and flux core arc welding will be studied and practiced to allow students to obtain skills for a total understanding of fabricated projects from design through the final assembly processes.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Maintenance Option is a comprehensive program that aims to provide future technicians with the tools and knowledge needed for success in the maintenance field. The program helps students build a solid foundation in electrical principles; AC & DC motors and controls; robotics; schematic diagrams; electrical system troubleshooting and maintenance; blueprint reading; hydraulic and pneumatic systems; mechanical theory; Programmable Logic Controllers; and automation. Students are prepared to take the Fluid Power Certification and the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) Exams. The capstone course for the AAS Degree is INMT 2280, Cooperative Education-Manufacturing Technology/Technician.
