Provides basic instruction in the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process on steel plates and shapes. Topics include orientation, safety, measuring tools, material types, metal cutting and preparation, and SMAW procedures and practices. Workplace skills including math, communications, and business ethics are integrated into the curriculum. Students successfully completing this course will be prepare for entry-level positions.
The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is designed to prepare students through the study and application of principles from mathematics, natural sciences, and technology and applied processes based on these subjects.Course work includes mathematics, natural sciences, engineering sciences and technology.Mechanical Engineering Technology is a course of study that prepares the students to use basic engineering principles and technical skills to design, develop, test, and troubleshoot projects involving mechanical systems. Includes instruction in principles of mechanics, applications to specific engineering systems, design testing procedures, prototype and operational testing and inspection procedures, manufacturing system-testing procedures, test equipment operation and maintenance, computer applications, critical thinking, planning and problem solving, and oral and written communications. Graduates of the curriculum will find employment opportunities in the manufacturing or service sectors of engineering technology. Engineering technicians may obtain professional certification by application to organizations such as ASQ, SME, and NICET.NOTE: Upon completion of all requirements, the A.A.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology is granted by Pitt Community College. The Tennessee Board of Regents community colleges and the state's public universities have joined together to develop a common core of courses for the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree. This common curriculum allows students to transfer, without loss of credit, from Pellissippi State to any Tennessee public university as juniors. All earned outlined on the pathway will apply toward a bachelor's degree in the same discipline. The pathway guarantees admission to all public universities in the state, except for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where competitive admission standards will still apply.Upon completion of the Associate of Science transfer program, the graduate will have developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to accomplish the following:Demonstrate knowledge and/or skills acquired within the general education core. Demonstrate knowledge and/or skills acquired from transfer electives. Locate and evaluate information from a range of credible sources using proper attribution and citation. Solve problems using skills developed across the curriculum.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Successful completion of the Welding Technology certificate gives you the necessary welding skills required for employment as a non-code combination welder or welder’s helper.The certificate is also a building block for the Welding Technology A.A.S. degree. Completion of the certificate fulfills some of the academic program’s first-year credit requirements and can be applied directly toward the degree.
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).

This course will help give guidelines for selecting the most appropriate inspection method for a part feature. Participants will gain an understanding of design principles to produce low cost, functional gages. They will also be taught a method of practical datum selection as well as guidelines for using modifiers. Criteria for selecting company/division gaging policies and an overview of gaging equipment capabilities will also be covered.
The Electronics Technology Certificate program is designed to give students a foundation in electronics. All credits earned for this certificate apply to the AAAS Electronics Engineering Technology degree.
The additive manufacturing industry is continuing to grow and is set to more than double its market value in the next 10 years. As companies strive to keep pace in this fast-growing industry, there has been an uptick in the hiring rate of applicants with foundational expertise in additive and 3D design. Featuring DPT 100 and DPT 150, which are the fundamental courses of SCCs' additive manufacturing (AM) program, this program was developed to quickly and efficiently establish the skills needed for K-12 students, college students, and business professionals to implement advanced manufacturing methods and 3D printing effectively, no matter the career path or industry. These courses are offered in person and online to ensure anyone can attend, regardless of location.
Skills developed throughout this program include advanced manufacturing methods, materials, and their use cases, troubleshooting, safety procedures, AI utilization, topology optimization, finite element analysis, generative design, reverse engineering, cost analysis, and manufacturing optimization.
This certificate is also stackable if the student wishes to continue and receive our more extensive "3D Printing Technician - Level 1" certification.
