The Mechanical Engineering Technology curriculum provides a broad and diverse educational experience. Course work includes computer-aided drafting and design (using AutoCAD), solid modeling (using SolidWorks), applied mechanics, materials engineering, manufacturing methods and processes, computer usage, mathematics, physics, and oral and written communications. The Advanced Manufacturing Machine Technology certificate provides students with the opportunity to train in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Throughout the duration of their training, students will develop an advanced level of skillsets that will lead directly into a career in the vast world of manufacturing, such as an entry level machinist or a quality inspector. The programs were developed in response to Connecticut manufacturers’ needs for a highly skilled workforce to match the needs of the regional industry sector partnerships around the state of Connecticut that graduates of the program are placed with. The student who completes the Advanced Manufacturing Machine Technology certificate program has a choice to pursue employment or to matriculate in an associate degree program. To earn this certificate, you will choose nine directed electives based on regional industry needs for specific courses.

The Nondestructive Testing program is designed to provide students experience in nondestructive test methods, visual inspection, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, and ultrasonic and radiographic testing.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toDemonstrate safe practices for nondestructive testing;Summarize the rules and regulations of radiation safety and characteristics of x-ray and gamma radiation;Illustrate electromagnetic principles and use the equipment;Discuss ultrasonic theory and apply ultrasonic techniques;Summarize magnetic particle testing formulas, methods, applications, limitations, material sensitivity, and equipment calibration;Summarize liquid penetrant formulas, methods, applications, and limitations; andFollow a written procedure that has been created from a code or standard.
The General Technology major allows students to select course work necessary to become multi-skilled technicians. In addition to completing the college's core curriculum, students also complete course work in at least two technical areas. The following is an example of a career path available. The secondary paths may be substituted for courses in other programs' primary path. Interested students should talk with their advisors.This program introduces students to workplace safety, blueprint reading, precision measuring, basic conventional machining and CNC operations, including set-up and programming. Students are prepared for entry-level employment in the metal- working industry.
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing with a concentration in Industrial Maintenance/HVAC will prepare graduates for employment as entry-level HVAC technicians. Concepts covered in the concentration include fundamentals of electric and gas heating systems, refrigerant transition and recovery, commercial/industrial wiring, and NEC Codes.
The term “Advanced Manufacturing Technology” is used to describe flexible manufacturing systems that use innovative technology to improve the design and manufacture of products and processes. The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program will teach you how these systems – using robotic and transport-based automation including modular work cells: assembly stations, storage locations, machining centers, welding centers and painting stations – play out in the product, from design to manufacture to delivery to the customer.
