Looking to start a new career in electrical or advance your existing skillset? The Electrical Training Program at Bucks County Community College gives you hands-on experience at our state-of-the-art facility in Bristol, PA.Offering introductory, intermediate, and advanced sections, you can take one or all three levels or join the level based on your experience. No electrical experience is necessary to apply to Level 1. Our experienced instructors will guide you and help you build a strong foundation for your future career. These electrical trainings provide foundational and fundamental learning and are not training a participant to be an electrician.
The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Electrical Technology is designed to prepare students for employment in various industries as electrical/electronic technicians. Students develop the practical skills needed to calculate, install, and work with electrical machinery, machine control, and other electrically controlled devices in residential, 48 Tidewater Community College 2019–2020 Catalog | Career and Technical commercial and industrial environments. In addition, this program also provides students with a comprehensive set of skills that are needed in the electrical industry. Training options in career specialty areas include program and logic control, industrial and business management, renewable energy technologies, fiber and data cabling, and occupational safety. The degree offers students an in-depth background in electrical fundamentals through theory and hands-on instruction.
The Associate of Occupational Studies in Welding Technology (AOSWT) degree consists of two academic years containing a total of 60 weeks and 60 semester credit hours. The first academic year of this program is the Professional Welder program (25 semester credit hours), which prepares a graduate for entry level positions in structural, pipe, and thin alloy and/or pipeline welding. The second academic year is directed toward course material for job entry as a Welding Quality Assurance/Quality Control Inspector (WQA/QCI) containing 35 semester credit hours. Each course shall be four days a week and will consist of three weeks.

Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Students in this program are prepared for careers in industrial drafting and design of industrial components. Companies that manufacture physical products and that have production process equipment need their products, facilities and equipment drawn, detailed and designed prior to their manufacture or installation. Students gain an overview of manufacturing processes through hands on lab classes in CNC machining, welding and electrical controls as well as Computer Aided design program training and conversion of 3D designs into CNC programs and rapid prototyping of designs.
Job Corps’ Advanced Welding training program teaches students advanced skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures, including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students who complete Advanced Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The Engineering Design Technology (EDT) degree path will augment students' learning by coupling theory-based instruction with hands-on applications using current software. The EDT path software includes but is not limited to AutoCAD and three levels of SOLIDWORKS. This degree comprises courses that emphasize application in industry standards, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD & T), and ANSI standards to produce a complete technical drawing packet. EDT students will obtain the skills will by taking classes in innovation design, formal engineering design process, advanced critical thinking, and project management. This path allows additive manufacturing options; 3D printing, Insight, Materialise, NetFabb, Generative Design, Geomagic Design X, and GOM inspect software.
