This program is designed to give students the technical and interpersonal skills necessary for placement into electronics technician positions. Students gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with both basic and advanced electronics including circuits, controllers, and the machine to system interface.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toAnalyze, configure, troubleshoot, and assist in designing and measuring electrical and electronic circuits and systems;Read and describe the characteristics of basic circuitry and compute circuit capacity;Demonstrate wiring design and identify basic electrical components;Troubleshoot analog and digital circuits using standard and specialized test equipment;Program and troubleshoot PLC systems for basic system control;Describe how various industrial processes are coalesced using advanced PLC techniques;Demonstrate the use of electrical, electronic solid state, digital, and pneumatic transmitters in practical process control instrumentation; andEffectively communicate during problem solving and troubleshooting.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering prepares students for four-year institutions by introducing them to Computer-Aided Design (CAD), MATLAB, C++ skills, statics, mechanics of materials, robotics and dynamics, and their theories. By the completion of this program, students may be able to join the mechanical engineering industry at entry-level positions. Students are encouraged to transfer to a four-year institution after the completion of the AS in Mechanical Engineering.
This program is designed for students desiring advanced computer aided design skills to generate engineering drawings. Topics include three- dimensional CAD, feature-based modeling and CAD/CAM applications
This pathway is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering. Requirements vary among institutions. The following program is a composite of the requirements of the first two years of the baccalaureate degree at most four-year institutions. Students should have successfully completed a minimum of four units of high school mathematics, including trigonometry, and three units of science in biology, physics and chemistry.
The Short-Term Maintenance Technician Certificate program will train you to become a maintenance technician for automated equipment such as robots and computer numerical control (CNC) equipment. This certificate offers the broad-based skills and hands-on experience needed to start a career in maintaining these high technology systems. Employment opportunities include field service representative, factory service representative, maintenance technician, automation repair technician, robotics technician, or maintenance supervisor.This credits earned in this program can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science in Automation Engineering Technologies with a major in Systems Specialist or Maintenance/Repair.
This all-expense paid, 10-week accelerated training will provide you with 80-hours of training in preparation for the American Welding Society certification exam in select structural and pipe, to include: Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Students will learn many different types of welding practices, shop safety and metal fabrication skills. Students will learn the skills needed to find employment after completion.AWS certifications will be held after the completion of 80 hours of training. Students can choose (with instructor guidance) which AWS certification they intend to complete.This training is intended for individuals who have some basic prior knowledge and skill in welding. Interested students will need to complete an interview and a basic skills test.
Gain knowledge and skills to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair automated electro-mechanical, product assembly, and process control systems that use programmable controls and other methods to manage complex systems. These systems include robotic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic devices.Program graduates will gain the skills to define, integrate, install, program, and maintain complex control systems; and will gain the communication, problem solving, and professional skills needed to be successful in this field. The Automated Industrial Technology courses are designed to prepare students for the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification exams.
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Electrical Systems Technology curriculum is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.Coursework, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, programmable logic controllers, industrial motor controls, applications of the National Electric Code, and other subjects as local needs require.Upon completion, students should qualify for a variety of jobs in the electrical field as an on-the-job trainee or apprentice assisting in the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems.
Mechanical Engineering Technology is a great fit for students who want to take a hands-on approach to mechanical engineering. Mechanical Engineering Technologists participate in the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of industrial machinery, consumer products, engines, and other equipment. Virginia Peninsula’s Mechanical Engineering Technology associate of applied science program emphasizes the application of scientific and engineering principles. The curriculum is grounded in math, science, and engineering principles with practical lessons in computer-aided drawing and design, composite materials, hydraulics, and other technical areas.
The Electrical Applications (EA) program contains seven (7) courses, 30 weeks, and 28 semester credit hours. The objective of the EA program is to train and prepare students for entry-level or trainee positions in the residential, commercial, and industrial electrical industry. Students completing this program should have an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles, residential and commercial wiring applications, voice, video, and data cabling systems, the application of motors, lighting, and devices that control them as well as exposure to various types of transformers. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
