Students will learn and build knowledge ofmechatronic systems. These systems arecomprised of mechanical, electrical, andsoftware systems, and typically include sensorsfeeding data to a computer/controller, whichdetermines how to energize a motor/actuator.Mechatronics systems form the foundation ofrobotics, automation, and advancedmanufacturing (such as 3D printing).Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic/hydraulicsystems are explored as well as relevantcomputer technologies. Students will applyprinciples related to pneumatic, electropneumatic, and hydraulic control circuits as wellas basic digital logic and programmable logiccontrollers in a complex mechatronic system. Students may earn dual enrollment credits (forfree), and a College Certificate of Studies withVPCC credits transfer into the VPCC MechanicalEngineering Technology Degree (956-02).
This program is designed for those seeking employment in an industrial electrical-related field or those seeking to become an entry-level residential, commercial, or industrial electricians. It will also provide updated training for those currently employed to increase their knowledge.
The Advanced Welding short-term technical certificate recognizes the student who has completed a core group of welding courses. This collection of courses will provide the student with specialized knowledge and skills to be prepared for entry-level employment in a variety of industries that utilize advanced welding positions and processes. Students that excel in the program may be qualified to take certain welding certification tests. Lorain County Community College has articulation agreements with colleges and universities, including programs offered by Lorain County Community College's University Partnership.You may choose to continue your education by applying the credits earned in this program to the Welding Operator One-Year Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology.
In 2015, Somerset Community College (SCC), recognizing the impending potential of 3D printing technology to create next-generation products and set the stage for significant leaps in innovation and advanced manufacturing applications, created the nation's first statewide, college-accredited Additive Manufacturing (AM) program. Recognized and adopted by the Kentucky Department of Education, the program involves three AM courses, DPT 100, 150, and 280, with the additional requirements of two technical elective courses and a business course focused on entrepreneurship. These courses are offered in person and online to ensure anyone can attend, regardless of location. (Additional AM courses are available to fit into the technical elective slots.)
The program, developed alongside industry professionals, focuses on AM technology not as a replacement, but as a value-added component, to conventional manufacturing industries such as welding, CNC, industrial maintenance, as well as a host of other career pathways such as Engineering, Medical Technology, and K-12 Education. Resulting graduates are job-ready, not only for their primary form of employment, but also possessing additive manufacturing mindsets and skills, allowing them to bring innovation to their future employers and businesses. The additive manufacturing skills these graduates possess include advanced manufacturing methods, materials, and their use cases, troubleshooting, safety procedures, AI utilization, topology optimization, finite element analysis, generative design, reverse engineering, cost analysis, and manufacturing optimization.
This high demand industry offers careers in many areas. The purpose of the Industrial Electricity/Electronics Technology program is to provide an accessible, premium quality education. This opportunity provides individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, values, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry- level employment in the electrical, electronics, or computer fields.The associate degree and certificate programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level industrial electricians, electronics technicians, or computer industry technicians. Program graduates are competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations. Technical areas include electronics circuit repair, industrial electrical wiring, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, computer system operation, and set up and repair. Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of industrial electronics. The occupational skill preparation should meet recognized skill standards. The college will ensure program quality through internal certification of graduate competencies.
The program is designed to prepare students to work in engineering environments to construct, test, and maintain electronic devices and systems. The program uses current state-of-the-art electronic industrial test equipment and procedures.

This pathway is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree in chemical engineering. Requirements vary among institutions. The following program is a composite of the requirements of the first two years of the baccalaureate degree at most four-year institutions. Students should have successfully completed a minimum of four units of high school mathematics, including trigonometry, and three units of science in biology, physics and chemistry.
