Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
The purpose of the Welding Technology program is to provide accessible, quality educational opportunities that will provide individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the welding profession.The diploma and certificates programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level structural and / or pipe welders. Program graduates are to be competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations and in the technical areas of cutting processes, blueprint reading, SMAW and GMAW structural welding and SMAW and GTAW pipe welding to AWS standards.Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of Welding Technology.
The Basic Certificate program in Combination Welder is designed to provide students with training in basic welding skills in a shop setting. In addition to learning welding mathematics, blueprint reading, and layout and fabrication, students are also introduced to the basic fundamentals of job safety and ethics. Graduates of this program are qualified for entry level employment as an ARC, MIG, or TIG welder.
The Process and Maintenance Technology program prepares graduates for entry-level process and maintenance positions in steel and stainless steel manufacturing, chemical and other plant operation related industries. The program provides instruction designed to develop knowledge of the monitoring and controlling principles used in modern industry as well as the technical skills needed to apply these principles.
Job Corps’ Manufacturing Technology training program teaches students skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Manufacturing Technology training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).

The Industrial Systems Technology curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to safely service, maintain, repair, or install equipment. Instruction includes theory and skill training needed for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial systems.Students will learn multi-craft technical skills in print reading, mechanical systems maintenance, electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics, welding, machining or fabrication, and includes various diagnostic and repair procedures. Practical application in these industrial systems will be emphasized and additional advanced coursework may be offered.Upon completion of this curriculum, graduates should be able to individually, or with a team, safely install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial process and support equipment. Students will also be encouraged to develop their skills as life-long learners.
Machinists design and create the prototypes from which most metal and other manufactured items are made, from large heavy machinery to small hand tools. Machinists also understand the underlying systems so they can maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment. Working in a modern, fully equipped machine shop, students in this program gain the knowledge and skills needed to fabricate metal items and repair and maintain advanced industrial machinery. This high-precision trade requires development of skills in the use of hand tools, measuring instruments, testing equipment, and basic, automatic, and computer-numerically-controlled (CNC) machine tools.The program also covers welding and heat treating, as well as accident prevention, foremanship, and quality control. Students learn through theory courses and practical experience on shop assignments and maintenance projects. Freshmen work on basic projects such as tooling, and they learn to operate various machines. Juniors are involved in blueprint projects, maintenance tasks, and making items needed by the college. In the second semester, juniors choose the advanced manufacturing track or the maintenance machining track. Seniors undertake more complex design projects or maintenance assignments based on their track.

This course will provide the student with an advanced look at AutoCAD 2024 that will allow them to learn new and better ways of accomplishing the task at hand with better speed and accuracy. Students will use advanced 2D commands to create and edit objects, use system variables, symbols libraries, and block attributes. The course will cover two-dimensional drafting techniques and introduce three-dimensional modeling. This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed to pass the Autodesk AutoCAD Certified User Exam.
