The Associate in Applied Science degree in Welding Technology is designed to prepare individuals for employment in the field of welding. The program is competency based that includes both theory and hands on practical application based instruction. Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding and cutting different types of materials.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
Launch a promising career as an industrial or manufacturing supervisor, production-planning technician, or methods and standards technician.
As a production welder, your job may include basic duties such as cutting, brazing and welding of various metal components. It may also include more advanced duties such as MIG and TIG welding using aluminum and stainless steel.
Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. These skills prepare students for careers as a mechanic in a number of role across the construction and engineering industries. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
Prepare to repair, maintain, and service HVAC systems by supervising and assigning work according to building codes and standards. You’ll train to conduct routine inspections and supervise repairs and/or maintenance to HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
The Precision Machining Technology program provides training in a broad technical background in CNC machine shop operations required of today's precision machining technicians. Covering an array of equipment and processes used to manufacture components used in the automotive, medical, military, and gas & oil industries, the students will learn basic and advanced principles and techniques using sawing, cutting, grinding, milling, and turning machine tools. Training will also provide an opportunity to learn basic and advanced precision measuring tools and techniques related to quality control and inspection of completed components. Advanced training will provide skills in G&M coding, Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming, Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD), and setup and operation of Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools such as Mills, Lathes, Wire EDM's, and Water Jet.
Mechanical Engineering Technology with specialization in Mechatronics (956-02) is a great fit for students who want to take a hands-on approach to mechanical engineering. With the Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree, specialization in Mechatronics, students start with the Mechatronics Certificate which prepares students for the Siemens Mechatronics Level 1 Certification, a worldwide industry credential (SMSCP). Mechatronics includes classes in Computer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Festo Industry 4.0 Certifications (FI4.0CP) require the completion of illustrated labs and instruction by FI4.0CP Certified Instructors. Job Corps’ Electrical training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. These skills prepare students for jobs as electricians across industries, including in the construction, manufacturing or engineering industries. Students who complete the Electrical training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This transfer program prepares you to tackle a challenging engineering program at a four-year college or university. The curriculum covers an array of theoretical and practical topics including mechanical, electrical and computer engineering; modeling and simulations; materials; circuits; and much more
Participants will learn the basics of SMAW in accordance with the AWS (American Welding Society) D1.1 standard. Topics covered include weld terminology, Oxyfuel welding setup, Arc welding processes and safety, OSHA standards, visual inspection as well as several types of welds. Participants will also be introduced to GMAW and GTAW. AWS certification is offered to those students who pass qualification. Passing of the AWS 3G and 4G 1″ testing also qualifies the student for the New York City welding license. Training is taught in a blended format of 180 hours of classroom and lab, with an additional online learning component. All books and materials included.
