Job Corps’ Electrical training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. These skills prepare students for jobs as electricians across industries, including in the construction, manufacturing or engineering industries. Students who complete the Electrical training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Associate in Engineering Science (AES) degree offers courses required for transfer to a four-year college or university for students majoring in engineering sciences. Completion of the AES degree does not fulfill the requirements of the IAI General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC). City Colleges of Chicago requires that the degree is inclusive of a minimum of 22 semester hours of General Education. A student must complete the general education requirements of the college or university to which she/he transfers.
This certificate will introduce students to the fields of Quality and Non-Destructive testing. Students will learn how to safely and efficiently operate in an advanced and fast paced manufacturing environment. Students will learn the foundations of quality and inspections systems. Finally, students will learn entry level skills in non-destructive testing including : Eddy Current, Ultrasonic Evaluation, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, and Magnaflux methods
The Electronics Engineering Technology program prepares students for a broad range of jobs in the electrical and electronic fields. Graduates of the program may become employed as broadcast technicians, business machine technicians, customer service representatives, computer service technicians, engineering technicians, laboratory technicians, field engineering technicians, engineering aides, electrical sales technicians, technical writers and electrical instrument technicians.

The Industrial Electronics Program includes instruction in AC, DC, digital, and solid state fundamentals; blueprint reading; material handling; motor controls; circuit fabrication; hydraulics and pneumatics; programmable logic controllers; construction wiring; environmental controls; motors and transformers; networking; and robotics.
Electrical Technology provides the opportunity to acquire the theory and skills needed to gain entry-level employment and advancement at an accelerated pace in the electrical field. Students will be able to apply basic electrical theory to all aspects of electrical technology. Skills and safe working habits are developed through construction and maintenance work project assignments. Since electricity has become an integral part of everyday life, an adequate supply of electrical power is necessary, as well as a reliable system for efficient utilization; thus, there is a continuing need for qualified electrical technicians.Graduates’ knowledge and skills are useful in such career areas as electrical engineering technicians, power plant technicians, electrical construction, industrial maintenance, and as technical representatives. High school prerequisites for this program are Algebra I & II, and a GPA of at least 2.5.

The Nondestructive Testing program is designed to provide students experience in nondestructive test methods, visual inspection, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, and ultrasonic and radiographic testing.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toDemonstrate safe practices for nondestructive testing;Summarize the rules and regulations of radiation safety and characteristics of x-ray and gamma radiation;Illustrate electromagnetic principles and use the equipment;Discuss ultrasonic theory and apply ultrasonic techniques;Summarize magnetic particle testing formulas, methods, applications, limitations, material sensitivity, and equipment calibration;Summarize liquid penetrant formulas, methods, applications, and limitations; andFollow a written procedure that has been created from a code or standard.
This program is designed to provide students skills to work in the electric and energy industries as an entry-level technician or to provide upgraded skills to those currently working in the field.
