The Industrial Maintenance Technology Certificate of Proficiency introduces students to the field of industrial maintenance including machinery installation, electrical principles, and manufacturing process. While learning technical skills, such as robotics fundamentals, students learn to think critically to solve problems on the factory floor. Upon completion of the Industrial Maintenance Technology Certificate of Proficiency, the student may choose to obtain a job in the manufacturing industry or complete the Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance Technology. Marketable skills for this award include: building effective relationships, critical thinking, customer service, and technical skills.
The Industrial Automation certificate provides upgrading of skills for those presently employed in industry as automation, instrument, and electrical technicians. In addition, the certificate is an excellent way to build basic skills for those who want to enter these fields. The curriculum is based on the skills required to troubleshoot and maintain PLC, Instrumentation, and Data Acquisition systems. Students are encouraged to pursue the Control System Technician Associate exam (CST) upon completion of this certificate. High school graduate reading and writing skills are expected, as development of technical reports and use of technical manuals are required in these courses. Math skills should include practical knowledge of algebra, basic trigonometry and geometry.Credits earned may be applied toward the Electrical Engineering Technology (A.A.S.) degree.Courses in each level (Foundation, Core and Advanced Track) must be completed prior to advancing to the next level. Where more than one course is offered within a level, courses may be taken in any sequence.
This certificate is designed to prepare students for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining and is also ideal for students who need to upgrade prior machine shop training to comply with the current needs of industry. Students learn the techniques, hardware, software menus and computer system practices associated with a Computer-Aided Machining/Distributed Numerical Control (CAM/DNC) system to manually write, save, retrieve and transfer CNC machine tool programs. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to sit for NIMS certification upon completion of the program. NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) credentials signifies a person can perform the work of a CNC Machine Operator according to recognized national standards.
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
This course prepares you to take the NCCER assessments and performance tests (testing costs included in tuition).
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing with a concentration in Industrial Maintenance/Mechanical will prepare graduates for employment as an entry-level multi-craft technician in areas such as Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC and instrumentation.
The Welding Specialist with Pipefitting program prepares a graduate for entry-level positions in structural, pipe and pipeline, and thin alloy welding, as well as for entry-level positions in pipefitting and steam fitting. In addition to the key welding processes learned in the Welding Specialist program, students also learn basic and advanced pipefitting skills. Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate will receive a diploma and should possess the skills and knowledge to test for welder certification through the American Welding Society (AWS). Graduates should also be able to successfully perform essential tasks expected from a certified welder, with minimal supervision.

Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
