This program teaches the skills required by mechatronics technicians for the 21st century's high-tech world of automated manufacturing, an inter-disciplinary field involving control systems, electronic systems, computers, robotics, and mechanical systems.
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Welder Fitter (900 hours) is our primary career-level program, and the one most frequently chosen by incoming students. This program is specifically designed for incoming students who have little or no welding experience and is eligible for financial aid to those who qualify.The program consists of metal cutting utilizing the Oxyacetylene torch and employing four common processes to make sound welds on carbon steel plate and pipe. The shop projects include various joint designs in all positions on plate and pipe. In Shielded Metal Arc Welding, several electrode types and sizes are employed with both AC and DC electrical arc welding machines. Two semi-automatic processes are taught: Gas Metal and Flux Cored Arc Welding. Structured theory classes cover welding safety, proper machinery set ups and adjustments, basic metallurgy, weld wire selection, welding joint design, and shop math. Instruction in blueprint reading includes additional shop math, welding symbols, and the basics required to read, understand, and follow welding blueprints.Specialized training includes extra hands-on time in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) working with a variety of other metals (carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum plate or pipe). It also covers Combination Processes, where students are instructed in the additional considerations that come into play when more than one process is needed in the joining procedure. The Welder Fitter program also includes basic instruction in both pipe fitting and structural layout.
Embarking on the journey of Small Engine Technology I, students are immersed in the intricate world of small internal-combustion engines, prevalent in diverse industries such as lawn and garden, marine, and high-performance power sports. Through a curriculum designed for safety, students not only gain the knowledge to maintain but also master the skills to repair these engines. The focus extends to manual starting systems, ignition systems, cooling systems, and exhaust systems, preparing students to diagnose and service with precision.Continuing the voyage in Small Engine Technology II, students ascend to a higher echelon of expertise. The curriculum delves deeper into the intricacies of small internal-combustion engines, fostering an understanding of the causes of engine failure. Students are not just technicians; they become adept analysts, performing diagnostic and troubleshooting operations with finesse.This advanced program doesn't merely stop at knowledge acquisition; it paves the way for potential certifications in the Equipment and Engine Training Council (EETC). Beyond academia, graduates find themselves poised for diverse career opportunities. Whether in small engine labs, technical schools, or even the military, the skills honed in Small Engine Technology II position students for success in a variety of professional pathways.
Techniques and practices are introduced to assist students in welding a variety of materials (ferrous and non-ferrous) including sheet, shapes, and tube stock projects and repairs. Students also gain workplace skills such as math, communications, and business ethics.

This course will introduce the student to the fundamentals of linear and angular measurement. Students will learn to measure a variety of parts produced in a manufacturing environment using both fractional and decimal measuring equipment. Students will prove competency in basic measurement practices though a series of shop exercises.
This training program starts with hands-on welding classes, and the majority of classroom experience is through interactive workshop courses. It’s an exciting training program that will prepare you to jump-start your welding career in as little as seven months.
This program is designed to prepare students for Siemens Mechatronics certification.
The outcomes of this certificate program will prepare students for employment in the field of Mechanical Computer Aided Design and Drafting. The curriculum covers a broad base of current Computer Aided Design, Basic Applied Manufacturing and Engineering skills necessary for success and productivity in modern industry. Course content covers basic geometric creation, metrology, geometric data management, technical math, communications, manufacturing process interfaces, design optimization and design analysis.
