Electronics and Electrical Engineering technicians build, test, service, and repair electronic equipment used in a variety of industries. Topics covered in this program include electronics principles, circuit troubleshooting and design, PLC, motor controls, hydraulics and pneumatics, and industrial automation.
This certificate teaches beginning and intermediate welding students the principles and practices of gas metal arc and flux cored arc welding in preparation for entry into the welding fields of manufacturing, construction, transportation and maintenance.
This course will cover the overall operation of a CNC (Computer Numeric Controller) machine. Topics include safety, measurement tools, processes, production, setup, loading tools, offsets, developing and loading a program, and inspecting a part. Training is taught in a blended format of 180 hours of classroom and lab, with an additional online learning component. Additionally, after successful completion of all class testing, the student will receive the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Mill Operator and CNC Lathe Operator certifications. Computer Aided Mechanical Drafting and Design involves the 2D and 3D drafting and modeling of mechanical systems and components in accordance with national and international drafting standards. Students will explore 3D solid modeling, mechanism animation, and the creation of 2D and 3D schematics of machinery, equipment, and industrial systems. Software packages include Autodesk’s AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Autodesk Inventor. Students could also gain experience with our 3D printers and our CNC machines. Additionally, the CME.CA certificate is a career ladder program and all the program credits can be applied toward completion of the CAD.AAS degree.
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This certificate further develops students completing Mechatronics I as well as advanced students already working in the industry in areas such as, but not limited to, robotics, PLC and applications, sensors and controllers, troubleshooting and process controls.This is a new interdisciplinary field involving control systems, electronic systems, computers, robotics and mechanical systems. Courses taken in this certificate can be applied toward the associate degree program. The Mechatronics Level 2 Certificate builds on the Level 1 Certificate. The program will provide students with knowledge in the industrial automated manufacturing technology area. The student will develop basic foundational skills and understanding in electronics, robotics, motors, motor drives and programmable logic controllers. In addition, basic troubleshooting strategies will be developed on an automated manufacturing line.

This program is designed to offer a clear pathway for students wanting to transfer into the bachelor's degree program in Manufacturing Engineering Technology at Western Michigan University. Upon graduating from the program at WMU, among the jobs students can consider are: Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering assistant, Manufacturing Specialist, Engineering Technician, Technical Sales, Production or Material Planner and many other technical support positions. By declaring this Articulated Pre-Major, students are on track to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and transfer to WMU to earn a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Mechatronics program is designed to help students exit the program with hands-on skills and knowledge recognized by industry partners as the key competencies to succeed in the field of mechatronics.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
You’ll have classes in numerical controls, machine shop practices, orientation to engineering and technologies, and introduction to computer-aided manufacturing. In addition, you can learn in the field with a three-credit cooperative education internship during your final semester.
The Industrial Maintenance Technology curriculum provides upgrading of skills for those presently in the manufacturing field or basic skills for those who want to enter the field. The certificate is based on developing preventive and predictive skills in the following areas: print reading, applied mathematics, hydraulics, pneumatics, power trains, mechanisms, electronics, and PLCs.Credits earned may be applied toward the Electromechanical Technology (A.A.S.) degree. High school graduate reading and writing skills are expected, as development of technical reports, use of technical manuals and interpretation of codes are required in these courses. Math skills should include practical knowledge of algebra, basic trigonometry, and geometry.Courses in each level (Foundation and Core) must be completed prior to advancing to the next level. Where more than one course is offered within a level, courses may be taken in any sequence.
