The Principles of Robotics program is designed to provide students with an entry-level knowledge of robotics, programming, problem solving, and the principles of technology.
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
If you’re interested in educational and/or career goals and objectives that are not met specifically by one of the school’s traditional majors, the Engineering Technology, BS (Contract Major) may be an option for you.This type of major is considered an individualized education plan and may involve educational experiences in more than one school or college of the University. Contracts that involve advanced or specialized courses from more than one college are considered cross-college contract programs and must have the explicit approval of both schools or colleges. You may have the opportunity to take courses within business and communications, for example.
Students can master the high-demand skills of Mechanical Assembly, Composite Fabrication or Basic Avionics. Additional coursework taken from a core set of aviation topics provides students with an in-depth perspective on the aviation industry. Topics include quality control, aerospace manufacturing and aircraft systems and components.
EnginesWe’ll teach you the tools of the trade, then immediately put them to use pulling apart and rebuilding a Cummins, CAT, or Detroit engine. We start with differentials, then move through hubs, kingpins, and steering. During the course, you’ll get to overhaul an Eaton-Fuller manual transmission; pull, inspect, and measure tolerances on clutches; pull and inspect single- and double-gear reduction differentials; work on and adjust brakes; and work on computer-controlled manual transmissions.Learn failure analysis and troubleshootingDevelop skills in clutch and transmission repair and adjustmentsWork on automatic traction control systemsFluid Power and RefrigerationIn this course, we will go over the basic understanding of hydraulics and hydraulics safety. You will learn correct use of flow meters and pressure gauges to diagnose hydraulic and hydrostatic systems. Also covered in this area are the operation, testing and servicing of in-cab air conditioning and transport refrigeration. Our Engineering program teaches you how to understand complex concepts and apply them in the physical world. You will learn skills to solve problems and develop plans, work successfully in teams, use computers for a variety of tasks, enhance critical thinking and calculation skills, and create engineering designs. This program features laboratory courses that provide firsthand experience with engineering work, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, mentoring opportunities and field trips to university laboratories. Working in teams throughout the program, you will tackle engineering design projects while enhancing your math and physics skills and also learning to gather information via computers.
This course will teach the basics of Computer Numeric Control (CNC) programming for 3-axis mill applications. Students will learn to write CNC programs using G&M code, tool-pathing, canned cycles, and troubleshooting. Course content will reinforce concepts of safety, shop math, and tooling usage. Students will employ these skills in a machine shop environment.
The Certificate of Completion in Welding prepares individuals for careers as Commercial/Industrial AWS Certified Welders. This program provides a solid foundation in basic SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and Oxy-Fuel welding principles. Students demonstrate proficiency in single and multi-pass welding in all positions. Emphasized skills include blueprint reading, job estimation, fabrication procedures, metallurgy, and welding inspection. The capstone course for the Certificate of Completion is WLDG 2453, Advanced Pipe Welding.
Qualifies for Scholarship Funding Learn the necessary fundamentals about operating a powered industrial truck competently, safely, and according to OSHA standards. According to OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.178, it's mandatory for anyone operating a forklift to complete forklift certification training before they're allowed to operate the equipment. Included in the program you will learn forklift design limitations; uses in material handling; pre-operation check; operator skills; and accident prevention.
The Industrial Machine Technology program provides instruction in the theory and operation of manual mills and lathes and other tools related to the machinist trade.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toApply quantitative skills in conjunction with trade handbook information to solve problems;Communicate effectively during the problem solving process;Use tools and equipment to form and machine various materials in a manufacturing laboratory environment;Describe precision measurement and quality control procedures;Use various precision measuring tools including a coordinate measuring machine; andDemonstrate advanced techniques that are used on manual mills and lathes.
Shielded Metal Arc Welding, often referred to as stick welding, is the basis of all welding processes. Learn to weld multiple joint designs utilizing the SMAW process in accordance with American Welding Society specifications.
