The short-term certificate recognizes the student who has completed a core group of welding courses in welding and visual inspection. The collection of courses will provide the student with specialized knowledge and skills to be prepared for entry-level employment in a variety of industries that utilize welding. Lorain County Community College has articulation agreements with colleges and universities including programs offered by LCCC's University Partnership.You may choose to continue your education by applying the credits earned in this program to the Welding Operator One-Year Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology.
Successful completion of the Welding Technology Professional certificate provides you with the skills to qualify for entry-level employment as a non-code combination welder. Training includes all first-year MCC welding courses, including manufacturing repair and CAD.The professional certificate is also a building block for the Welding Technology A.A.S. degree. Completion of the certificate fulfills all credit requirements for the first year of the academic program and can be applied directly toward the degree.
Students must see the Welding instructor before starting this certificate. Prior welding experience or classes are required before starting certificate courses.

The Automated Systems Technology - Mechatronics program is a field of study that focuses on the integration of mechanical, electrical (electronics), fluid power (hydraulics or pneumatics), and computer technologies to control machine movements. The new term for this is “Mechatronics.” The students’ studies begin with courses in mechanics, sensors, basic electronics, pneumatics, control logic and robot programming and control. The student goes on to learn how to program a specific Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and then writes and troubleshoots programs to control different types of industrial machines. Students will learn soldering skills, schematic diagram reading, advanced programming of PLCs, Robots, and Network systems.
This program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for entry into residential, commercial, or industrial electrician jobs.
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
This certificate is designed for students with little or no drafting experience who want to work with land development drawings. The certificate includes an introduction to land surveying and GIS software.
The Welding and Inspection Technology curriculum provides students experience in welding and inspection technology as it pertains to assembly, manufacturing, energy, structural construction, and nondestructive testing. Nondestructive testing involves the inspection of material or a welding object in a manner that will not impair its future usefulness using one of the NDT test methods: visual inspection, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, ultrasonic, and radiographic testing. This program provides education and training in common cutting and welding processes; AWS welding standards; and OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes. Structural, pipe and plate welding; nondestructive testing and inspection; blueprint reading and communications; and math competencies are also emphasized.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toDescribe and demonstrate safe and proper use of each type of welding equipment;Select and demonstrate various joining processes;Read and interpret welding blueprints using a systemic process;Estimate type, quantity, cost, and weight of a welded fabrication from information on a blueprint;Demonstrate proper transport, setup, adjustment, and use of all cutting and welding equipment;Use current industry technology to test and repair welding related equipment;Demonstrate proficiency in OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes;Recognize, inspect, and document proper applications of welding processes;Demonstrate techniques and devices for controlling heat effects during welding;Consistently use equipment safely in the performance of nondestructive testing;Demonstrate proficiency in the use of nondestructive testing equipment and processes; andUse current AWS, ASME, and ASNT codes, welding procedures, and recommended practices.

Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This program provides the skills needed for a student to become an entry-level CADD operator and enter the workforce in the field of mechanical drafting. Coursework includes the creation of 2D and 3D CADD drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other modeling software in support of industry trends and technology advancements.
