Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Precision Machining Technology Certificate is a series of courses with a concentration in the skill sets required to be a machinist. The four course series is designed to follow the National Institute for Metalworking Skills Machinist Level I credential. Conventional and CNC mill and lathe concepts are covered. Students who successfully complete this certificate program should be successful in a manufacturing environment.
Virginia Peninsula’s certificate program offers courses in heating systems, planning and estimating, mechanical codes and more. This program also satisfies the classroom requirement for Journeyman licensing.
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is the process of creating 3D Virtual Models of components and assemblies, and 2D drawings that fully describe the product. The Mechanical Designer, while using a wide variety of CAD software, develops the product and creates drawings following standardized practices through International and company related standards. This program provides learning opportunities in multiple CAD software packages, drawing creation following ASME standards, tool and machine design, dimension & tolerance per the ASME Y14.5 standard and introduction to part creation through Manufacturing. Graduates can find employment in design and engineering related activities, in the areas of transportation, aerospace, medical technology, power transmission and defense.
The Welding Technology certificate program prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in the welding industry. Emphasis is placed on learning OSHA safety practices for industrial environments and developing advanced skills in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Oxy-Fuel Cutting/Welding/Brazing (OFCWB), Plasma Cutting (PAC), Air Carbon Arc (CAC-A) Gouging, Pipe Welding, interpretation of prints and welding symbols, and inspection and testing of welds. This curriculum provides students the opportunity to gain hands-on skills working in a welding shop where the skills taught in class may be applied in a variety of positions within the welding industry. This certificate may be completed at the Harrisburg Campus through on-campus/in-person instruction.
The purpose of the Welding Technology program is to provide accessible, quality educational opportunities that will provide individuals with the knowledge, technical skills, and attitudes necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the welding profession.The diploma and certificates programs are intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as entry-level structural and / or pipe welders. Program graduates are to be competent in the academic areas of communications, mathematics, computer literacy, and human relations and in the technical areas of cutting processes, blueprint reading, SMAW and GMAW structural welding and SMAW and GTAW pipe welding to AWS standards.Reid State Technical College will accomplish program objectives by providing students with a comprehensive general education and technical training in the core area of Welding Technology.

As part of the Connecticut College of Technology (COT), the Technology Studies A.S. degree provides the knowledge and skills within specific high-demand technology fields. The program consists of lecture and lab course work in engineering, technology, industrial technology, mathematics, sciences, and foundational requirements that provide a solid comprehensive background for continuation in a four-year technology degree program or entry into the workforce. Upon completion of a Technology Studies A.S. degree, students can transfer to Central CT State University or the University of Hartford to complete designated B.S. degrees.
The Career Studies Certificate in CNC Field Service Technician - Electrical prepares students for introductory level CNC electrical diagnostic and repair work. This program is designed for students with in-depth CNC experience.Career Opportunity: These 6 courses, 17 credit CNC Field Technician electrical program is designed for someone with previous CNC experience interested in working in field service. This program will teach students electrical diagnostic and repair skills, along with essential machine tool calibration procedures. You'll discover the major pitfalls of traditional coordinate tolerancing - and how they may be overcome by using Geometric Tolerancing. Then, starting with your basic print reading knowledge, you'll learn the symbols, terminology and rules of Geometric Tolerancing according to the ASME Y14.5M-1994 Standard.
Qualifies for Scholarship Funding Learn the necessary fundamentals about operating a powered industrial truck competently, safely, and according to OSHA standards. According to OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.178, it's mandatory for anyone operating a forklift to complete forklift certification training before they're allowed to operate the equipment. Included in the program you will learn forklift design limitations; uses in material handling; pre-operation check; operator skills; and accident prevention.
