Job Corps’ Advanced Manufacturing Production Technology training program teaches students advanced skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Mechanical engineering is a crucial part of rapidly advancing fields such as manufacturing, robotics, transportation and communications, introducing a new demand for engineers with the diverse skills, global viewpoint, and communicative abilities to fill the opportunities being created.Mechanical engineers are experts in using the principles of energy, materials and mechanics to design, manufacture and control machines and devices of all types. As a student, you are offered a balance of technical breadth and depth that enables you to emerge with the vision to identify a need, perform analysis and deliver a solution.Students can focus their studies in one of the many options for specialization in the field. This includes aerospace, biomedical engineering, design and manufacturing, mechanics and structures, systems and control or thermal and fluid sciences.

Including keeping those options open to explore careers while you earn a Manufacturing and Applied Technology Concentration Pathway Degree.
The Professional Welder program prepares a graduate for entry-level positions in structural, pipe, and thin alloy and/or pipeline welding. Key welding processes include SMAW, MIG, TIG, High Frequency TIG, and Fluxcore. The program consists of six five-week courses for a total of 30 weeks, 25 semester credit hours, and 750 contact hours of instruction. Many new students elect the Professional Welder program because of its specialty courses and expanded welding competencies. The Professional Welder graduate acquires many skills and can branch off into various career and employment opportunities. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
The Refrigeration Technologies (RT) program contains seven (7) courses. The objective of the RT program is to train and prepare students for entry as service and maintenance technicians in jobs that utilize technologies employed in the fields of air conditioning (both heating and cooling), and refrigeration. Students completing this program should have an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles and will have practical exposure to diagnosing, servicing and repairing common types of problems in related equipment. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
The Associate in Science (AS-T) transfer degree is designed to prepare mechanical, civil, aeronautical, and industrial engineering majors for transfer to a four-year institution with junior standing. The AS-T transfer degree will generally provide the transferring student with at least 110 credits upon entry to a four-year institution. This transfer degree will satisfy some, but not all, of the general education requirements at the receiving institution. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 120 credits as outlined.
The Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies Industrial Technician - Electrical prepares students for employment as industrial electrical technicians or supervisors.Program Outcomes: Graduates will demonstrate the ability to:Read basic drawings & symbols.Stick weld & choose & use basic welding tools/materials.Wire basic electrical circuits & understand basic wiring symbols.Troubleshoot basic control circuits.Troubleshoot & repair basic mechanical & electrical equipment.Note: Students will select a mechanical or electrical pathway.The courses are the same for the first two semesters.
This award covers topics in DC, PLC, Robotics, and Soldering. The skills taught in these classes can be used to become a technician maintaining automated systems.
These proficiency certificates, awarded for progress made in the CAD program, are available for all students, whether they are working toward an OCC certificate or an associate degree, or if each of these competency milestones are goals in and of themselves. These documents provide validation and some credentialing to show potential employers students’ skill
As part of the Connecticut College of Technology (COT), the Technology Studies A.S. degree provides the knowledge and skills within specific high-demand technology fields. The program consists of lecture and lab course work in engineering, technology, industrial technology, mathematics, sciences, and foundational requirements that provide a solid comprehensive background for continuation in a four-year technology degree program or entry into the workforce. Upon completion of a Technology Studies A.S. degree, students can transfer to Central CT State University or the University of Hartford to complete designated B.S. degrees.This program has an embedded Advanced Manufacturing Machine Technology Certificate.
The Electrical Systems Technology curriculum is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.Coursework, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, programmable logic controllers, industrial motor controls, applications of the National Electric Code, and other subjects as local needs require.Upon completion, students should qualify for a variety of jobs in the electrical field as an on-the-job trainee or apprentice assisting in the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems.
