Curriculum DescriptionThe Industrial Systems Technology curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to safely service, maintain, repair, or install equipment. Instruction includes theory and skill training needed for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial systems.Students will learn multi-craft technical skills in blueprint reading, mechanical systems maintenance, electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics, welding, machining, or fabrication, and includes various diagnostic and repair procedures. Practical application in these industrial systems will be emphasized and additional advanced course work may be offered.Upon completion of this curriculum, graduates should be able to individually, or with a team, safely install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial process and support equipment. Students will also be encouraged to develop their skills as life-long learners.

This Career Studies Certificate curriculum builds on foundational electrical knowledge taught in the Practical Electrical Technician Career Studies Certificate and covers more advanced applied skills in the electrical and instrumentation field, including advanced electrical skills, automated design processes, introduction to industrial management, and the principles of process control.This is a stackable credential, and all courses are either requirements or electives in the Associate of Applied Science Degree in General Engineering Technology.
Computer Aided Mechanical Drafting and Design involves the 2D and 3D drafting and modeling of mechanical systems and components in accordance with national and international drafting standards. Students will explore 3D solid modeling, mechanism animation, and the creation of 2D and 3D schematics of machinery, equipment, and industrial systems. Software packages include Autodesk’s AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Autodesk Inventor. Students could also gain experience with our 3D printers and our CNC machines. Additionally, the CME.CA certificate is a career ladder program and all the program credits can be applied toward completion of the CAD.AAS degree.
The Certificate of Completion in robotics operator prepares the student with basic foundation skills toward earning a degree in automation technology. Students are also able to earn a FANUC Robotics CERT Handling Tool Operations and Programming level 1 certification. This credits earned in this program can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science in Automation Engineering Technologies with a major in Systems Specialist or Maintenance/Repair.
This specialization of the Technical Studies program offers work-based learning opportunities and real-world experiences with courses in mechanical codes, heat pumps, direct digital controllers and more. The associate degree offers work-based learning opportunities, providing real-world experience in the industry. Virginia Peninsula also offers an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration certificate that satisfies the classroom requirements for Journeyman licensing classroom contact hours.
The quality assurance program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and cognitive skills necessary for the competent proficiencies as an entry-level quality technician. Employment opportunities exist as a quality technician or inspector, process control specialist, reliability lab technician or analyst, quality auditor, gauge control technician, or quality assurance analyst.
The Welding Technology Certificate Program provides the opportunity to develop skills necessary to be an entry level welder in the welding industry. There is an increasing demand for welders in a variety of industries including light and heavy construction, automobile, aircraft, gas and oil, railroad, machinery and manufacturing industries.These skills are developed through theory and hands-on application into various welding specialties including Blueprint Reading and Advanced Computer Aided Design, Oxy-Fuel Welding and Related Processes, Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Basic Gas Metal Arc Welding, and Basic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.Students find employment in a wealth of industries related to construction, machinery, manufacturing oil and gas, and transportation industries. Graduates with entry level certifications will find challenging jobs with opportunity for rapid advancement.
The Associate in Applied Science in Welding Inspection and Quality Management (AASWI) degree consists of two academic years containing a total of 60 weeks and 62.5 semester credit hours. The first academic year of this program is the Professional Welder program (25 semester credit hours), which prepares a graduate for entry level positions in structural, pipe, and thin alloy and/or pipeline welding. The second academic year is directed toward course material for job entry as a Welding Quality Assurance/Quality Control Inspector (WQA/QCI) containing 37.5 semester credit hours. Each course shall be four days a week and will consist of three weeks.
This program is designed to prepare students for Siemens PLC certification. Students will also receive skills needed for installation, maintenance and repair of advanced technology production equipment.

By the end of the program, you will have the skills and knowledge needed to maintain and fix many types of equipment.The program will teach you how to solve real maintenance problems and understand blueprints and schematics. You will also learn how to keep industrial facilities running smoothly and efficiently. By the end, you will be able to maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
