Students in this one-year program learn the theory and become proficient in the skills necessary to assume jobs as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning/refrigeration mechanics. All credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward the Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning/RefrigerationTechnology.
Utilizing the SMAW or GTAW process includes two designs: open root joint design andbacking ring joint design. Students must have a 3G AWS Welding certification in SMAWor GTAW process prior to enrolling in this class (a preparation class may be offered tostudents that need to meet this requirement) or field experience with the instructor’s approval.
As part of the Connecticut College of Technology (COT), the Technology Studies A.S. degree provides the knowledge and skills within specific high-demand technology fields. The program consists of lecture and lab course work in engineering, technology, industrial technology, mathematics, sciences, and foundational requirements that provide a solid comprehensive background for continuation in a four-year technology degree program or entry into the workforce. Upon completion of a Technology Studies A.S. degree, students can transfer to Central CT State University or the University of Hartford to complete designated B.S. degrees.
Robotics and Industrial Automation technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment used in industrial and automated settings. Topics covered in this program include electronics principles, circuit troubleshooting, PLC, motor controls, hydraulics and pneumatics, robotics, and industrial automation.

This program prepares graduates for entry-level positions that involve the operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical systems commonly found in automated manufacturing environments. Students will be prepared to work in the operations, installation, and maintenance of automated and robotically controlled systems. Systems-level analysis, assembly, and troubleshooting techniques are stressed with hands-on laboratory experiences to complements classroom-based instruction.
The Electromechanical Engineering Technology course of study provides a comprehensive learning environment of both electronic and mechanical principles. Learning emphasis is placed upon the hands-on application and design of electromechanical systems that include analog & digital electronics, engineering design, and computer controlled mechanical systems. The curriculum is based on integrated technical and core competencies (electronics, engineering design, engineering sciences), and it emphasizes a project-based learning format. Students work in teams to learn concepts, solve problems and make discoveries in a workplace-related environment. Students use traditional, Internet resources, and industry supplied data as sources of information.

Embarking on the nautical journey of Marine Service Technology I, students are immersed in a comprehensive exploration of watercraft service and marina operations. Rooted in the esteemed National Marine Trades Curriculum crafted by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), this introductory course lays the foundation for a mastery of marine trade skills. Students navigate the seas of workplace and boating safety, inboard and outboard systems, carpentry, electricity, and the intricacies of vessel storage and handling.As the nautical odyssey continues into Marine Service Technology II, students ascend to the next echelon of expertise in the service and repair of watercraft and marina operations. Building upon the foundation laid in the introductory course, students acquire entry-level proficiency in a broader spectrum of marine trade skills. From inboard and outboard systems to carpentry, fiberglass construction and repair, electricity, welding, and the nuanced art of vessel storage and handling, students become adept navigators of the marine service landscape.
Designed to help participants understand backflow and recognize cross-connections, this course places special emphasis on preparing individuals to test, inspect, and provide in-line maintenance of reduced pressure principle backflow prevention devices, double check valve assemblies, and pressure vacuum breakers. The course is for plumbing, mechanical, and fire suppression contractors, city building and plumbing officials, public utilities inspectors, water and wastewater personnel, health department officials, and engineers.**Please note: This class satisfies the minimum 16-hour education requirement to “sit” for the state exam, to accompany the minimum 7 years of work experience “in a water distribution system” requirement (to be verified by the applicant’s employer).

The Welding Technology Certificate of Technical Studies provides students the minimum welding skills needed to be employable, including at least two AWS certifications.Upon successful completion of the program, students willDescribe and demonstrate safe use of each type of welding equipment;Select and demonstrate various joining processes;Demonstrate proper setup, adjustment, and use of typical cutting and welding equipment;Demonstrate proficiency in OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes;Visually inspect and document proper applications of welding processes; andDemonstrate techniques and devices for minimizing part distortion during welding.
