An Occupational Skills Award (OSA) is the most basic sequence of courses that will prepare students for employment. Students are not able to declare an OSA as a major, or pursue one as an end goal. However, almost all OSAs are built into other certificates and/or majors, and they will be automatically awarded to students as they complete coursework in those certificates and/or majors.
Job Corps’ Advanced Welding training program teaches students advanced skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures, including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students who complete Advanced Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
CNC Manufacturing Technology 1-2-3 is a unique and intensive training experience that improves a manufacturing employee’s effectiveness on the shop floor. The program works simultaneously in multiple content areas in an all-in-one model. You will experience an actual production machining environment that culminates in a finished multi-component product.
ATI’s Maritime Welding Technology Diploma equips students for entry-level roles in structural and pipe welding. Over 15 months, students gain practical experience welding on multiple gauges of steel and aluminum, learning five welding processes and three cutting techniques. The program emphasizes hands-on training in a realistic shop environment, where students interpret blueprints, apply safety protocols, and earn American Welding Society (AWS) certifications—including up to the 6G pipe position—through on-site testing
Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
You'll discover the major pitfalls of traditional coordinate tolerancing - and how they may be overcome by using Geometric Tolerancing. Then, starting with your basic print reading knowledge, you'll learn the symbols, terminology and rules of Geometric Tolerancing as prescribed in the ASME Y14.5-2018 Standard. The GD&T Hierarchy will be presented to explain the relationship between tolerances and how to most economically apply the concepts.

The complete program builds on the learning from Welding I and includes introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), safety and health of welders, installation setup and maintenance of GTAW equipment.
This is a program that prepares individuals to be able to proficiently work in an entry level position in manufacturing, construction, or general industry.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
