Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This certificate prepares the student to sit for the certification exams required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and National Center for Aerospace and Transportation Technologies (NCATT) to become certified avionics maintenance technicians. Students will gain the skills needed to exceed employer expectations.Instruction includes installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of systems related to navigation, communication, power generation and other critical electrical, electronic and ancillary systems required to keep aircraft flying safely.

This prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards.
The Associate in Engineering (AE) degree is a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit. This program prepares students to transfer courses or the degree in its entirety to a four-year senior institution. The degree plan includes all required general education and prerequisite courses that are acceptable to all state-funded, Bachelor of Engineering programs. Students who follow the degree progression plan will meet the entrance requirements at all of the North Carolina public Bachelor of Science Engineering programs as a transfer student.
The Occupational Safety and Health Certificate was developed as a pathway for students enrolled in the Occupational Safety and Health Apprenticeship Program or for students interested in broadening their professional skills and knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health field. This certificate requires successful completion of a minimum of 43 credits as outlined.
This career path prepares students for employment in the broad field of drafting with opportunities in both government and industry. Training emphasizes the development of computer- aided design and drafting skills. Graduates typically obtain drafting and technical illustration jobs in the architectural, civil, construction, electrical, or mechanical field.Students can earn only one General Technology degree in a single career path.
This program is designed to offer a clear pathway for students wanting to transfer into the bachelor's degree program in Manufacturing Engineering Technology at Western Michigan University. Upon graduating from the program at WMU, among the jobs students can consider are: Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering assistant, Manufacturing Specialist, Engineering Technician, Technical Sales, Production or Material Planner and many other technical support positions. By declaring this Articulated Pre-Major, students are on track to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and transfer to WMU to earn a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
This certificate prepares individuals for actual welding work using welding processes and techniques, while preparing for the New York State Certification Examination.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This certificate is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to seek employment as Process Operators/Technicians in automated manufacturing and production facilities. The program provides students with an introduction to the concepts, theory, principles, and technical demands, as well as the hazards, and accident prevention aspects associated with the operation of processing equipment.
This program prepares students to fill careers in specialized fields of electronics including electrical machinery, control systems, digital and microprocessors, telecommunications and for continued study at the baccalaureate level in Engineering Technology. The Electrical Engineering Technology Program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org. Purchase of a scientific calculator, digital multi-meter, basic hand tools, and electronic breadboard is required for this program. Recommended student preparation prior to entry into this program includes two high school mathematics courses and one laboratory science course (physics and chemistry are recommended). Students well-prepared in mathematics may substitute a higher level mathematics sequence upon approval of the Dean. Elective courses may be included in this program to match students' interests and to focus on career or continuing education goals.
