The Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) certificate program is designed to qualify students in the gas metal welding processes on either plate or pipe in accordance to the American Welding Society (AWS) or the American Petroleum Institute (API) welding procedures. These courses can be offered concurrently as CEU courses.
As manufacturing equipment becomes more advanced and complex, trained and skilled technicians are needed. As an industrial mechanic, you may install, test, maintain, and repair mechanical systems such as conveying systems, production machinery, and packaging equipment. Your job will be to keep the manufacturing equipment running smoothly in order to ensure continuous operations.Building on the Industrial Mechanical Technician One-Year Certificate program, this coursework will provide an introduction to the necessary knowledge and hands-on experience with industrial electrical components, welding technologies, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and other mechanical systems, making you job-ready as an electrical maintenance technician doing journeyman-level work.
This short-term certificate in Basic Plate Welding-GMAW/FCAW/SMAW is designed to prepare individuals with entry-level skills in the field of welding. The program is competency based that includes both theory and hands on practical application based instruction. Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding and cutting different types of materials.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. These skills prepare students for careers as a mechanic in a number of role across the construction and engineering industries. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
The focus of this program is to provide highly skilled industrial technicians for a regional workforce. Qualified electronic technicians are needed in ever increasing numbers to assist local business and industry in taking full advantage of computerized systems, automation, and controls. The manufacturing environment of the 21st century integrates several advanced technologies including sensors, transducers, automated controls, programmable logic controls, motor control circuits, motor drives, pneumatics, microprocessors, computer hardware, and software applications. A strong educational background is required to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair such advanced systems.
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is the process of creating 3D Virtual Models of components and assemblies, and 2D drawings that fully describe the product. The Mechanical Designer, while using a wide variety of CAD software, develops/refines the product and creates drawings following standardized practices through International and company related standards. This program provides learning opportunities in multiple CAD software packages, drawing creation following ASME standards and Dimension & Tolerance per the ASME Y14.5 standard. Graduates can find entry level employment in design and engineering related activities, in the areas of transportation, aerospace, medical technology, power transmission, and defense.
Developed with support of business and industry, this degree combines all the areas of knowledge demanded of the new engineering technician. Graduates have a broad skill base that is desirable in a variety of employment opportunities.

The Refrigeration Technologies (RT) program contains seven (7) courses. The objective of the RT program is to train and prepare students for entry as service and maintenance technicians in jobs that utilize technologies employed in the fields of air conditioning (both heating and cooling), and refrigeration. Students completing this program should have an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles and will have practical exposure to diagnosing, servicing and repairing common types of problems in related equipment. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.
This program is designed to offer a clear pathway for students wanting to transfer into the bachelor's degree program in Industrial & Entrepreneurial Engineering at Western Michigan University. Upon graduating from the program at WMU, among the jobs students can consider are related to product innovation, design, and financial aspects of startup companies, as well as similar work for existing companies in various traditional industries such as hotels, banks, food, transportation, and hospitals. By declaring this Articulated Pre-Major, students are on track to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and transfer to WMU to earn a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Entrepreneurial Engineering.
Computer Integrated Manufacturing Engineering Technology (CIMET) technicians control, design, maintain, upgrade and operate modern, computer-controlled production equipment and facilities equipment used to manufacture many of the world’s goods. The CIMET program equips its graduates with an in-depth multi-disciplinary education in mathematics, physics, engineering technology, both manual and Computer Numerical Controller (CNC) machining, manufacturing processes and methods, industrial electronics, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and factory automation, as well as a broad education in computer studies, business and liberal arts.
Electro-Mechanical Technologies program is designed to prepare students for employment as electro-mechanical technicians who assemble, install, troubleshoot and/or repair mechanical, electrical and fluid power systems. The program includes instruction in industrial robotics, electrical controls and programmable controllers, manufacturing and operational testing, as well as system analysis and maintenance procedures.
