The Associate in Science (AS) degree prepares an individual for transfer to a four-year college or university. Consistent with the IAI model and the ICCB Administrative Rules, City Colleges of Chicago requires that the degree is inclusive of a minimum of 37 semester hours of General Education. For students who already know they are interested in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (the STEM fields), the Associate in Science degree, or even the Associate in Engineering Science (AES), is probably the one to pursue. This is also a transfer degree, and it is similar to the Associate in Arts. The main difference early-on concerns the selection of specific math and science courses, which will be different for students who want to major in a STEM field. Again, working closely with your advisor will ensure that you enroll in the right classes to achieve your goals.

Every product and every production line requires precision parts produced by skilled craftsmen.Since the skills are essential to every industry, the jobs are plentiful and the pay scale is excellent. Jobs are available locally and nationwide. Graduates of the CCCC program are recruited by local and regional industries.
The Electrical Systems Technology program at Advanced Technology Institute is a focused, hands-on training pathway designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in the electrical field. Over the span of seven months, students develop the practical and theoretical skills needed to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. The curriculum covers AC and DC electrical theory, wiring methods, motor controls, backup power systems, and an introduction to renewable energy systems. Students receive instruction aligned with the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the program includes DPOR-approved hours that apply toward a Virginia Electrical Journeyman license.
This program is designed to teach the skills required for the mechatronics technician in the 21st century's high-tech world of automated manufacturing. The program trains students in industrial environments using electrical, electronic and mechanical applications to identify and troubleshoot Mechatronics systems and repair automated manufacturing equipment, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and robotics. This is a new interdisciplinary field involving control systems, electronic systems, computers, robotics and mechanical systems. Courses taken under this certificate can be applied toward the associate degree program.The Mechatronics Level 1 Certificate develops basic foundational skills and understanding in electrical, mechanical, fluid power and automation control commonly found in the industrial manufacturing environment.
This is an advanced course only available to students who have successfully completed the CNC Machining 2 Program. The objective of this program is to reinforce 3-axis concepts learned in the previous semester and introduce advanced live tooling, 3+2, and 5-axis programming, setup and operations, advanced tool pathing and advanced set ups. They will set up, program, and make a series of projects that will lead them to be entry level 5-axis milling programmers or advanced lathe programmers. Students will learn the benefits of 5-axis milling in the manufacturing industry and understand the use of 4 and 5-axis for increased proficiency and advanced tool pathing. The students will enhance their 2D toolpaths and learn how to construct advanced toolpaths for 3D surface models. The students’ proficiency will propel them towards 3+2 and true 5-axis programming. In the machine shop, they will learn advanced mill and turning. Along with adjusting post-processors for various CNC machines. Students will study Solid Modeling as a design tool for machine components. This course is designed to teach advanced CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) setup, programming, and operating skills. Students will gain advanced CMM and quality assurance skills. Students will have an advanced grasp of how to operate a CMM in a manufacturing context upon completion of this course.
The electrical industry is comprised of three branches: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution. The industry is changing and becoming more modernized as new energy technologies are developing constantly. The Energy Systems Technology program trains you for entry-level employment in the operation of conventional and renewable power plants, the transmission of power, and the delivery of power to the end user. You will work closely with top-notch faculty who bring years of experience into the classroom. Come study the latest technical and safety aspects of plant operations, and the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation technology needed for working in related industrial operations. Marketable skills for this award include: building effective relationships, critical thinking, customer service, initiative, strong work ethic and discipline.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
LCCC's mechatronics program is an exciting, job-focused program that will give you an understanding of how MEMS are designed and fabricated and prepare you to work as an entry-level technician. We've partnered with six different Northeastern Ohio microelectronics companies who looking for trained workers to ensure that our classes teach you exactly what they want you to know on the job.The MEMS one-year certificate program builds on the related short-term certificate program and will give you hands-on experience and training working at the operator level in a class-10,000 cleanroom located on college grounds. You'll get to work with materials, equipment, protocols, and processes related to the microelectronics industry and learn theory of MEMS design, sensor and microcircuit operation, material and size constraints, microelectronic packaging, printed circuit design, manufacturing, and project management.You may choose to continue your education by applying the credits earned in this program to an associate of applied science in mechatronics technology -micro electromechanical systems or a bachelor of applied science in MEMS.
Job Corps’ Advanced Electrical Service Technician, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students advanced skills needed to install, repair and replace residential circuits and determine general wiring requirements, decide on and install proper anchors, fasteners and adhesives for electrical systems, and coordinate system repairs across teams. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Advanced Electrical Service Technician, Pre-Apprentice program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the Homebuilder Institute (HBI) and earn certificates for OSHA training courses in Construction Safety and Health.
Prepare for a career designing and maintaining the complex mechanical and electrical control systems that keep automated manufacturing lines up and running. Students will train on over $1 million worth of equipment, including robotics and programmable logic controllers, which simulates a real-world factory floor. The program will prepare students for eight duty areas aligned with National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) including: maintenance operations; mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic process, and process control systems; and maintenance piping.
This certificate offers course work designed to prepare the student for engineering transfer. Upon completion of the certificate the student can select a pathway in either civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering transfer to a four-year college or university.
