This 24-credit program can be completed in two semesters. The program introduces students to the principles and techniques of basic oxyacetylene welding and cutting, basic shielded metal arc welding, and basic gas metal arc welding. Courses are geared to students enrolled in other programs such as diesel mechanics technology.
The Electrical Engineering Technology program is designed to train students to function effectively as assistants to electrical engineers or independently as electrical/electronics technicians, automation or maintenance technicians. Emphasis is placed on developing knowledge and skills in electrical and electronic circuits, AC and DC motors, robotics, motion control, instrumentation, data acquisition, programmable logic and computer-based controllers, and fluid power applications. In addition, courses place emphasis on safety, teamwork, communications skills and efficient work practices. The curriculum prepares electrical engineering technicians to translate the engineer's designs into systems and projects, collect and analyze data, develop design layouts, inspect work, check and repair equipment, and prepare reports for the engineering team. The program employs instructors with years of practical experience and is guided by working professionals.
Utilizing the SMAW or GTAW process includes two designs: open root joint design andbacking ring joint design. Students must have a 3G AWS Welding certification in SMAWor GTAW process prior to enrolling in this class (a preparation class may be offered tostudents that need to meet this requirement) or field experience with the instructor’s approval.
This degree is designed as a cooperative education program with Newport News Shipbuilding and is in conjunction with its formal apprenticeship program. Through this program, shipyard employees are provided the opportunity to complete an associate in applied science degree.
The Associate in Engineering Science (AES) degree offers courses required for transfer to a four-year college or university for students majoring in engineering sciences. Completion of the AES degree does not fulfill the requirements of the IAI General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC). City Colleges of Chicago requires that the degree is inclusive of a minimum of 22 semester hours of General Education. A student must complete the general education requirements of the college or university to which she/he transfers.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Our Engineering program teaches you how to understand complex concepts and apply them in the physical world. You will learn skills to solve problems and develop plans, work successfully in teams, use computers for a variety of tasks, enhance critical thinking and calculation skills, and create engineering designs. This program features laboratory courses that provide firsthand experience with engineering work, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, mentoring opportunities and field trips to university laboratories. Working in teams throughout the program, you will tackle engineering design projects while enhancing your math and physics skills and also learning to gather information via computers.
The Associate in Applied Science degree in Welding Technology is designed to prepare individuals for employment in the field of welding. The program is competency based that includes both theory and hands on practical application based instruction. Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding and cutting different types of materials.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
Greenville Technical College is now offering the state's first Applied Baccalaureate program at a two-year institution. The program prepares graduates to assume technical and managerial leadership positions in the growing global manufacturing sector, which drives South Carolina's economic strength. Technicians with plans to advance into higher-level technical and management positions can build on their associate degree, adding two more years of education at Greenville Tech.The applied bachelor's in advanced manufacturing technology at Greenville Technical College does not duplicate anything offered by a four-year institution and is very different from a traditional bachelor's degree. The degree is technical in focus with a project-based curriculum. Learning is active, engaging, and hands-on.

The Welding Technology Certificate Program provides the opportunity to develop skills necessary to be an entry level welder in the welding industry. There is an increasing demand for welders in a variety of industries including light and heavy construction, automobile, aircraft, gas and oil, railroad, machinery and manufacturing industries.These skills are developed through theory and hands-on application into various welding specialties including Blueprint Reading and Advanced Computer Aided Design, Oxy-Fuel Welding and Related Processes, Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Basic Gas Metal Arc Welding, and Basic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.Students find employment in a wealth of industries related to construction, machinery, manufacturing oil and gas, and transportation industries.
