The Welding and Fabrication Technology curriculum provides students training and experience in welding and fabrication as it pertains to assembly, manufacturing, energy, and structural construction. The program provides education and training in common cutting and welding processes; CNC plasma cutting; OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes; structural and pipe and plate welding; blueprint reading; communications; and quantitative problem solving.Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able toDescribe and demonstrate safe use of each type of welding equipment;Select and demonstrate various joining processes;Estimate type, quantity, cost, and weight of a welded fabrication from blueprint information;Demonstrate proper setup, adjustment, and use of typical cutting and welding equipment;Demonstrate proficiency in OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes;Visually inspect and document proper applications of welding processes;Demonstrate techniques and devices for minimizing part distortion during welding;Apply advanced fabrication techniques including design, layout, fixturing and production welding that is commonly found throughout fabrication shops; andDevelop and schedule the sequence to complete a fabrication project from start to finish including blueprints, estimating, quality control, and any coating requirements.
The Mechanical Design Certificate Program includes all of the courses to prepare students for an entry level position as an engineering technician. The topics of Computer Aided Design (CAD) using AutoCAD and 3D parametric modeling with SolidWorks are featured in this program. Engineering graphics, industrial tool design, and prototyping (ie. 3D printing) are also covered in this program. All credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward the Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences in Mechanical Design.
The Mechanical Engineering Technology program prepares graduates for entry-level employment in the Mechanical Engineering field. The skills acquired from this course of study allow the student to visualize objects in three dimensions, describe objects with manual and Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) techniques, and apply Mechanical Engineering principles to design products, tools, and equipment for a manufacturing-oriented industry. The program’s affiliations with industry are maintained through an Advisory Committee and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).The student’s skills are developed with a comprehensive exposure to the concepts of orthographic projection, sectioning, and isometric drawing with an emphasis on instrument drawing techniques. A thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and a demonstrated proficiency with the latest CAD software complement these skills. Additional training in Fabrication Principles, Mechanical Design, Product Design, and Manufacturing Processes provides a well-rounded experience with mechanical design and manufacturing technology.The principles of Mechanical Engineering are mastered by studying the motion of mechanical objects and the underlying concepts required to understand how a machine functions or a manufacturing process is performed. By studying the practical aspects of structured programming, parametric feature-based design, and solid modeling, the student gains the skills necessary to utilize the computer as a design tool. Further studies in Fluid Mechanics, Production Design, Engineering Materials, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Machine Design, and related engineering topics allow the student to build upon these concepts. Practical applications of these concepts are further realized as the student completes an internship project during the fourth semester.Upon entering the work place, the graduate can expect to assist engineers and scientists in the design and development of new products. As work experience is acquired, the graduate can expect to gain more design responsibility and thereby become a key member of an engineering team.

Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Learn fundamental skills in machine shop operations, including machining inspection and quality assurance. Through a combination of bookwork and hand-on practice, this certificate prepares students for a specialized career in machining inspection and quality assurance, which is the process of making sure that products meet specifications and quality guidelines
The General Technology major allows students to select course work necessary to become multi-skilled technicians. In addition to completing the college's core curriculum, students also complete course work in at least two technical areas. The following is an example of a career path available. The secondary paths may be substituted for courses in other programs' primary path. Interested students should talk with their advisors.The welding career path prepares students for entry level employment in the welding career field, which includes manufacturing, construction, transportation, fabrication, inspection and sales. The program provides students with an overview of various welding processes and applications as well as knowledge in the areas of welding metallurgy, weld quality, print reading and welding safety
The Associate of Science in Engineering is designed to prepare students for upper-level engineering courses at a four-year college or university. The curriculum offers a firm foundation in mathematics, engineering, and natural science. Regardless of their area of specialization, engineers are required to apply principles of math and science, solve problems, create new systems, and envision new processes to meet the demands of a continually evolving global economy. Admission requirements vary by institution. Students are urged to familiarize themselves with the requirements of the college to which they intend to transfer and plan course selections with their DCC advisor.This transfer degree is designed to prepare students for upper-level engineering courses at a four-year college or university. It is part of the University of Virginia's Produced in Virginia initiative, which aims to increase the number of engineers graduated in the Commonwealth.This program is rigorous. Students must feel comfortable doing high level math and science, regardless of area of specialization. Our Instrumentation, Electrical & Controls Fundamentals (IE&C) certificate program in Electrical/Electronic Controls leverages the pre-requisite training gained in the 1st year certificate and adds industrial level concepts for a complete understanding of how electricity keeps our manufacturing processes working. The advanced 2nd year certificate prepares the student for above entry-level employment as an Automation Technician capable of working in any industry position using instrumentation and automation to control processes. Through concentrated classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory work, the student learns about industrial poly- phase equipment, how to create and install control panels, programmable controls and process instrumentation used in a variety of commercial and industrial manufacturing plants throughout the globe. Come learn the Automation Industry standards at TJC’s state-of-the-art facilities. Marketable skills for this award include: critical thinking, detail-oriented, problem solving and technical skills. All new students are required to attend electrical/electronic controls orientation.
Train to become an Aerospace Electrical Assembler with Lockheed Martin! Calhoun Workforce Solutions, in partnership with Lockheed Martin, is offering an Aerospace Electrical Assembly Pre-Apprenticeship program. Topics covered will include an introduction to blueprints and schematic drawings, basic math, wire harness assembly, electrical fundamentals, and torque. Successful completers will earn IPC 620 certification, OSHA 10 certification, and J-Standard Module 1 certification and will be guaranteed an employment interview with Lockheed Martin.
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Certificate of Completion in Mechanic Technician prepares individuals for employment as Mechanic Technicians in commercial and industrial fields. The program provides a solid foundation in basic electrical principles; motors and controls; schematics; troubleshooting of complex electrical systems; hydraulics and pneumatics; and mechanical systems. Additionally, the program prepares students to take the Fluid Power and Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) Certification exams. The capstone course for this Certificate of Completion is INMT 2345, Industrial Troubleshooting.
