This short-term certificate in Basic Plate Welding-SMAW Fillet is designed to prepare individuals with entry-level skills in the field of welding. The program is competency based that includes both theory and hands on practical application-based instruction. Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding and cutting different types of materials.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
A computer numerical control machine (CNC) is a tool that forms materials to a desired shape for parts and component requirements. CNC machines use pre-programmed software to control the movements of complex machinery, including grinders, lathes, mills, and other cutting tools used to remove material. These computer-aided manufacturing techniques can perform a wide range of complex and precise CNC machining tasks to create manufactured products and specifically designed parts for today’s nuclear submarines.The ideal candidate for CNC machining would be a student interested in a career that challenges the mind while being hands-on every day. It is a rewarding job that allows you to see firsthand what it takes to make a complex product from a basic piece of material. At its core, the CNC machining course utilizes computerized machines and cutting tools like drills to make many of the items we use daily. Even if you have no experience or prior knowledge, the ATDM CNC machining class was developed to ensure student success from any background.If you already have CNC machining, additive manufacturing, metrology, or welding experience, you would be a great fit to take your manufacturing knowledge a step further. For example, in CNC machining, students learn to use many of the measuring tools that are taught in metrology. In additive manufacturing, students would benefit from having worked with CNC machines since the logic is the same for the additive machines. Finally, from the CNC machining class, students have a basic understanding of metallurgical properties. Students would be able to apply that knowledge to the welding class, where metals are fused.
The Architectural Design Technology (ADT) degree path will augment students' learning by coupling theory-based instruction with hands-on applications using current software. The ADT path software includes, but is not limited to, Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM), Chief Architect, with an option for Lumion, Sketch-up or NavisWorks, and AutoCad. ADT classes offer students knowledge in innovation design, formal design process, BIM, advanced critical thinking, project management, civil, and structural design. Students will obtain the skills needed to plan, develop, and produce final construction documents for residential and commercial applications.

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program will expose you to foundational engineering skills that employers are looking for. You will also learn about careers in the automotive, aerospace, or power generation industries and those focused on noise control, mechatronics, and biomedical applications.
Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).

The Welding Technology curriculum provides students with a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metalworking industry.Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes. Courses may include math, print reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing providing the student with industry-standard skills developed through classroom training and practical application.Graduates of the Welding Technology curriculum may be employed as entry-level technicians in the welding and metalworking industries. Career opportunities also exist in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, and welding-related self-employment.

The Welding and Fabrication Technology with Pipe program at Lincoln Tech’s Mahwah campus prepares students for entry-level welding careers through hands-on training in cutting, fabrication, and multiple welding processes such as SMAW, MIG, TIG, and FCAW. Students begin with foundational welding skills and progress to advanced techniques, including pipe welding, blueprint reading, and evaluating weld quality to meet industry standards.
