Developed with support of business and industry, this degree combines all the areas of knowledge demanded of the new engineering technician. Graduates have a broad skill base that is desirable in a variety of employment opportunities.
The focus of this program is to provide highly skilled industrial technicians for a regional workforce. Qualified electronic technicians are needed in ever increasing numbers to assist local business and industry in taking full advantage of computerized systems, automation, and controls. The manufacturing environment of the 21st century integrates several advanced technologies including sensors, transducers, automated controls, programmable logic controls, motor control circuits, motor drives, pneumatics, microprocessors, computer hardware, and software applications. A strong educational background is required to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair such advanced systems.
This program is designed to provide the student with skills and knowledge relevant for preparation and advancement within entry-level positions of employment as production workers, operators, helper trainees, or helpers in varied fields of employment in industry. The program is structured to also afford a currently employed student/worker (as well as employers) with a means for developing an opportunity to explore new job responsibilities, as well as to enhance current job skills and knowledge within a company. This effort will be designed to provide an opportunity for the individual to be better prepared to avail themselves of career advancement opportunities as they are encountered. The program provides for a formalized integration of collegiate level course work and at the same time, compliments this education with formalized College Sponsored Experienced Learning (CSEL) “on-the-job” (OJT) learning/training. Experiential learning will consist of a formally structured training plan, having been developed with a respective employer and, an appropriately identified college advisor, as well as the student.
This certificate prepares individuals for actual welding work using welding processes and techniques, while preparing for the New York State Certification Examination.

Job Corps’ Welding training program teaches students skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Manufacturing Production Technician, Advanced Machinist and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as a part of their career pathway. Students who complete Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Engineering Graphics and Design Technology program provides the technical training for students to interpret and produce engineering and architectural graphics and data. Students are eligible for this certificate after completing the first two semesters of a Drafting and Design Technology AAS degree. This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
The process of welding uses heat to permanently bond objects together. Because of its strength, welding is used in shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, aerospace applications, building and bridge construction, and thousands of other manufacturing activities. The Welding Department at LBWCC prepares students for a broad background in welding with many diverse employment options. The program includes fundamental processes and skills, with an emphasis on students earning nationally-recognized certifications. Program graduates receive instruction in a variety of welding processes, including shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding, as well as visual inspection and blueprint reading.
Electro-Mechanical Technologies program is designed to prepare students for employment as electro-mechanical technicians who assemble, install, troubleshoot and/or repair mechanical, electrical and fluid power systems. The program includes instruction in industrial robotics, electrical controls and programmable controllers, manufacturing and operational testing, as well as system analysis and maintenance procedures.
The Manufacturing Engineering Technology program will prepare individuals as qualified technologists to provide support for routine engineering operations in product design, development, and manufacturing, with focus on hands‑on experience to contribute resourceful and innovative solutions to today’s technical problems.

The electrical/electronic engineering technology (EEET) associate in applied science (AAS) program trains students to work as technical assistants with scientists and engineers. The program emphasizes practical experience and teaches skills such as drawing interpretation, testing procedures and data compilation. Mechanical aptitude and a background in math and science are beneficial for prospective students.
