The advanced welding and introduction to fabrication course building on training from Welding I and II and includes advanced welding process highlighting Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Hydraulic Press Break, Hydraulic Shear, Hydraulic Pipe and Tubing bender, Vertical Band Saw, Horizontal Band Saw, Portable Pipe Machining Equipment, Orbital Welding System, and Water Jet.
Job Corps’ Advanced Welding training program teaches students advanced skills like joining metals using a variety of techniques and processes, understanding and following safety procedures, including properly using safety equipment, and identifying and explaining the composition and classification of metals, and designing and building a fixture for assembling simple parts. These skills prepare students for a career working in a variety of jobs for manufacturing companies, construction companies, trade shops, shipbuilders or repair shops. Students who complete Advanced Welding training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Practical skills are honed as students learn to select and install conductors, examine lighting, communication, and power systems, and navigate the intricacies of conduits and raceways. The curriculum extends further into panelboards, switchboards, grounding systems, and generators, offering a holistic view of the multifaceted world of electrical systems.

The Certificate of Completion in Machining Technology, CNC Machinist adds computer numerical controls, computer-assisted manufacturing, and computer-integrated manufacturing to the conventional skills developed in the program. This certificate prepares individuals for employment as entry-level machinists. The capstone course for the Certificate of Completion is MCHN 2272, Electrical Discharge Machine.

As part of the Connecticut College of Technology (COT), the Technology Studies A.S. degree provides the knowledge and skills within specific high-demand technology fields. The program consists of lecture and lab course work in engineering, technology, industrial technology, mathematics, sciences, and foundational requirements that provide a solid comprehensive background for continuation in a four-year technology degree program or entry into the workforce. Upon completion of a Technology Studies A.S. degree, students can transfer to Central CT State University or the University of Hartford to complete designated B.S. degrees.
