Enhance your welding skills for greater, more varied employment opportunities. Prepare for positions in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux core arc welding (FCAW).Students who complete this certificate have demonstrated advanced skills in all aspects of welding, such as structural fabrication, ornamental, and working with exotic metals.
This Pathway Program with a concentration in Math, Science, and Engineering is designed for those students who are still deciding which specific area within the Academic Pathway they would like to study or for those who intend to transfer in a related area for which GRCC does not offer an academic program. Students who have decided on an academic program within the Academic Pathway offered at GRCC should select that program and follow the coursework plan outlined in that program.
This training program starts with hands-on welding classes, and the majority of classroom experience is through interactive workshop courses. It’s an exciting training program that will prepare you to jump-start your pipe welding career in less than one year.
The Advanced Manufacturing Machine Technology certificate provides students with the opportunity to train in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Throughout the duration of their training, students will develop an advanced level of skillsets that will lead directly into a career in the vast world of manufacturing, such as an entry level machinist or a quality inspector. The programs were developed in response to Connecticut manufacturers’ needs for a highly skilled workforce to match the needs of the regional industry sector partnerships around the state of Connecticut that graduates of the program are placed with. The student who completes the Advanced Manufacturing Machine Technology certificate program has a choice to pursue employment or to matriculate in an associate degree program. To earn this certificate, you will choose nine directed electives based on regional industry needs for specific courses.
A Defense-specific Machine Operator training course was developed in coordination with employers to increase the number of individuals in Machining careers to support the high demand defense manufacturing industry. This new NO COST course will be used to train individuals not currently in the manufacturing industry or to help defense employers upskill their current workforce!
Graduates of this program will become skilled manufacturing technicians to meet the needs of our changing world. The manufacturing of products creates thousands of secure technician-level jobs each year, most of which do not require a four-year degree. The automation of manufacturing equipment and processing continues to change, requiring technicians to have increased skills. Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Electrical Systems Technology curriculum is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.Coursework, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, programmable logic controllers, industrial motor controls, applications of the National Electric Code, and other subjects as local needs require.
This program is for students looking to work within the exciting field of Welding Engineering Technology. Students will learn welding skills including MIG, TIG, metal cutting techniques and small machine operation related welding in addition to weld blueprint reading and related processes. CNC fabrication equipment commonly associated with welding fabrication will also be introduced. Students will be performing hands on welding and completing projects throughout this program to develop hands on skills that employers are looking for.
The Welding and Fabrication Technology curriculum provides students training and experience in welding and fabrication as it pertains to assembly, manufacturing, energy, and structural construction. The program provides education and training in common cutting and welding processes; CNC plasma cutting; OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes; structural and pipe and plate welding; blueprint reading; communications; and quantitative problem solving.Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able toDescribe and demonstrate safe use of each type of welding equipment;Select and demonstrate various joining processes;Estimate type, quantity, cost, and weight of a welded fabrication from blueprint information;Demonstrate proper setup, adjustment, and use of typical cutting and welding equipment;Demonstrate proficiency in OXYFUEL, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes;Visually inspect and document proper applications of welding processes;Demonstrate techniques and devices for minimizing part distortion during welding;Apply advanced fabrication techniques including design, layout, fixturing and production welding that is commonly found throughout fabrication shops; andDevelop and schedule the sequence to complete a fabrication project from start to finish including blueprints, estimating, quality control, and any coating requirements.
Flux Cored Arc Welding is an all-position process. Learn the proper machine setup and equipment operation and how to weld multiple joint designs utilizing the FCAW process in accordance with American Welding Society specifications.
