Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
An Occupational Skills Award (OSA) is the most basic sequence of courses that will prepare students for employment. Students are not able to declare an OSA as a major, or pursue one as an end goal. However, almost all OSAs are built into other certificates and/or majors, and they will be automatically awarded to students as they complete coursework in those certificates and/or majors.

This program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. Through this 10-hour course, participants can attend classes delivered by OSHA-authroized trainers and earn an OSHA 10-hour card for general industry. The classes will be held at Calhoun Community College in the Center for Business and Industry Training (CBIT) in Decatur, AL
Curriculum DescriptionA course of study that prepares the students to use basic engineering principles and technical skills in developing and testing automated, servo mechanical, and other electromechanical systems. Includes instruction in prototype testing, manufacturing and operational testing, systems analysis, and maintenance procedures. Graduates should be qualified for employment in industrial maintenance and manufacturing including assembly, testing, startup, troubleshooting, repair, process improvement, and control systems, and should qualify to sit for Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) mechatronics or similar industry examinations.
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is the process of creating 3D Virtual Models of components & assemblies, and 2D drawings that fully describe the product. The CAD operator, while using a wide variety of CAD software packages, refines the product and creates drawings following standardized practices through International and company related Standards. This certificate provides learning opportunities in CAD software, drawing creation following ASME standards and Dimension & Tolerance per the ASME Y14.5 standard. Graduates can find entry level employment in design and engineering related activities in the areas of transportation, aerospace, medical technology, power transmission & defense.
Graduates will learn to analyze, troubleshoot, and align mechanical and automated industrial machinery. Program course work includes electronics, industrial wiring, motor controls, programmable logic controls, instrumentation, industrial fluid power, manufacturing automation concepts and robotics.
This class will introduce the participant to tungsten arc welding while using steel and aluminum. Students must bring their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
The Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies Automation and Robotics includes four educational components: general education, technical foundations, content skills and knowledge, and work-based learning. The content skills and knowledge and work-based learning components are specific to the field of automation/robotics. This includes the installation, configuration, programming, and troubleshooting of automation/robotic systems.Admission Requirements: Students must meet the general admission requirements of the college. All Students who are not proficient in communication and computation skills will be required to correct deficiencies through developmental courses and/or direct enrollment.Program Outcomes: Graduates of the Automation/Robotics-Technical Studies Program will:Demonstrate the knowledge gained in how modern manufacturers use Automation/Robotics in manufacturing.Demonstrate the ability to communicate Automation/Robotics concepts effectively.Demonstrate analytical ability to effectively perform manufacturing systems troubleshooting.Demonstrate the proper use of tools and test equipment used with Automation/Robotics.Demonstrate the proper safety procedures when working with or near Automation/Robotic systems.
The Basic Mig Welding program prepares students for employment in the welding industry as structural welders in a production environment. Students will gain hands-on experience with Oxy-fuel cutting, Plasma Arc Cutting, Gas Metal Arc Welding as well as an overview of blueprint reading and basic mathematics. The program includes a wide variety of welding experiences for structural and production welding. Students can exit the program with a certificate in welding and an AWS welding certification. In addition, the Wallace Campus has been designated by the American Welding Society as an Accredited Testing Facility.

A computer-aid design software most commonly used by machine technology professionals to create CNC code for Machining Centers. Some of the topics this course will cover includes creating 2D and 3D solids, programming for C and Y axis, and create dynamic roughing, facing, threading, finishing, cutoff tool paths.
