Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing with a concentration in Process Technology is designed for individuals seeking employment in the process industry as a process technician. The process industry plays a significant role in U.S. businesses and our economy, serving the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, textile, chemical and petroleum processing, power production, plastic, paint, cosmetic, and other sectors.
Students can master the high-demand skills of Mechanical Assembly, Composite Fabrication or Basic Avionics. Additional coursework taken from a core set of aviation topics provides students with an in-depth perspective on the aviation industry. Topics include quality control, aerospace manufacturing and aircraft systems and components.

The curriculum for this certificate teaches basic electrical/electronic fundamentals needed to enter the electronics technician workforce. Courses combine a mixture of classroom and lab instruction using the classroom to present basic theory and the lab to reinforce that theory with hands-on practical experiments.
In this program, students are taught toprofessionally install, repair, and maintain theoperating conditions of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration(HVACR) systems.Students work with piping and tubing, studythe principles of heat and electricity and installduct systems. Students also explore emergingtechnologies, U.S. Environmental ProtectionAgency (EPA) regulations, energy conservationtechniques, and systems with exempt and nonexempt refrigerants. Successful completion ofthis program will prepare students for acareer as a HVACR technician. This program iscertified by HVAC Excellence.
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

This training program starts with hands-on welding classes, and the majority of classroom experience is through interactive workshop courses. It’s an exciting training program that will prepare you to jump-start your welding career in as little as seven months.
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is a type of machine tool control that automates the motion of machines such as lathes and mills. CNC machines are used in today’s job market to create precise parts at a globally competitive level. Career opportunities include titles such as operator, setup person, and programmer. Today’s machinists need to be well versed in CNC technology in order to ensure upward mobility in the career path.
This major prepares students for gainful employment in general machine shops and CNC manufacturing. This is an assessment based certificate where students are evaluated on their ability to demonstrate their knowledge and experience in all the topics of study. Topics include safety, blueprint reading, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), machining a work piece to drawing specification, use of computer aided design software to create drawings, programming, and set-up of CNC lathes and milling machines, using G-Code and CAM, proper tooling and work-holding methods, speeds and feeds, and metal cutting theory. After students complete the minimum skills required in their assessment books, they continue their training by developing their own advanced machining projects. These projects include design, manufacturing, and evaluation of their own product ideas.
