The Associate of Applied Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing with a concentration in Aerospace Technology will prepare graduates for employment in aerospace and related industries through classroom and laboratory instruction in propulsion structure and assembly or welding.
Job Corps’ Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills needed to work with electrical systems in homes, businesses and factories, including how to install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems in places of all sizes, read blueprints and diagrams and will need to follow state and local building regulations, and use various hand tools and power tools. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Electrical, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and certifications in construction health and safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This is a program that prepares individuals to be able to proficiently work in an entry level position in manufacturing or general industry.This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
This certificate includes SolidWorks, CATIA V5, GD&T and Mastercam or CAMWorks, to enhance the student's abilities in order to expand their employment opportunities in engineering and manufacturing, including the automotive and aerospace sectors.This certificate allows technicians in engineering and manufacturing to add new knowledge and skills in order to bridge the gap between 3D CAD design and the fabrication of products in the digital manufacturing environment, including subtractive and additive manufacturing, 3D printing, 3D laser scanning, reverse engineering, CNC programming and metrology/CMM processes.
The Engineering Computer-Aided Drafting (ECAD) Technology program prepares graduates for positions as entry-level CAD operators in a wide range of manufacturing and engineering industries. Skills acquired from this program of study will allow students to become an integral part of product design and the manufacturing of those products. Graduates will apply specialized knowledge and skills utilizing state-of-the-art CAD software to think critically, to solve problems, and effectively communicate with colleagues and supervisors in today’s ever-changing work environment.From preliminary drawings and sketches to parametric design, to animated assemblies, graduates will learn how to simplify, enhance, and streamline the manufacturing and engineering processes utilizing CAD. Students acquire comprehensive skills in the following technical areas: fundamentals of drafting, technical drawing, process pipe drafting, processes of manufacturing, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), metals fabrication drafting, and power transmission. Students’ CAD skills are developed with a comprehensive exposure to the latest software releases of AutoCAD®, Autodesk Inventor®, SolidWorks®, and Pro/Engineer®.
Mechanical Engineering Technology is a great fit for students who want to take a hands-on approach to mechanical engineering. Mechanical Engineering Technologists participate in the design, testing, and manufacturing of industrial machinery, consumer products, engines, and other equipment. Virginia Peninsula's Mechanical Engineering Technology AAS program prepares students for the Siemens Mechatronics Level I Certification Exam. The curriculum is grounded in math, science and engineering principles with practical lessons in computer-aided drawing and design, composite materials, hydraulics, and other technical areas.
This course introduces students to core concepts in advanced manufacturing, including electrical systems, mechanical systems, automation, and basic robotics. Training combines theory with hands-on lab activities using industry-standard equipment to prepare participants for entry-level roles in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, and automation.
You'll discover the major pitfalls of traditional coordinate tolerancing - and how they may be overcome by using Geometric Tolerancing. Then, starting with your basic print reading knowledge, you'll learn the symbols, terminology and rules of Geometric Tolerancing as prescribed in the ASME Y14.5-2009 Standard. The GD&T Hierarchy will be presented to explain the relationship between tolerances and how to most economically apply the concepts.
Job Corps’ Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, Pre-Apprenticeship training program teaches students skills needed to work with large machines like inspecting, repairing and replacing defective or worn parts such as bearings, pistons and gears, performing scheduled maintenance to diagnose and identify malfunctions, using computerized tools and equipment to address issues, and testing major components such as engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete an Automotive and Machine Repair training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations like the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and the United Automobile Workers (UAW).
Job Corps’ Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program teaches students the skills like how to apply paint, stain and coatings to walls and ceilings, buildings, bridges or other items such as cars, jewelry and ceramics, use machinery to apply the paints or use scaffolding and raise ladders, fill holes and cracks with plaster and putty, and utilize simple math to calculate dimensions. This program specifically prepares students for a Registered Apprenticeship after graduation. Students who complete the Painting, Pre-Apprentice training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
