Completion of this program satisfies the Montana Department of Labor and Industry requirement for the educational component of the HVAC apprenticeship program. In conjunction with the required work experience, this program provides students the training necessary to work in the field of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration in residential and commercial applications.Upon completion of this program, students will be able toDifferentiate among the use of ammeters, voltmeters, watt meters, and multi-meters in testing and trouble-shooting electrical components;Summarize the functional aspects of various electromechanical control systems;Explain the fundamentals of operating a boiler;Explain the significance of heating and cooling loads;Interpret detailed instructions for electrical circuits; andExplain the concepts of a refrigerant cycle diagram and label each of the basic components.
The mechatronics technology certificate is designed to address basic competency in skills needed for employment in today's complex manufacturing environments. These classes all apply to the mechatronics associate degree. The program is not directly aimed at specific products. With the multiplicity of equipment presently in use and the rapid advance and change in technology, the department stresses the development of a broad background that will enable students to find employment and be able to further their skills in a diversified number of industries.
The Mechatronics Technology Career Studies Certificate is an accelerated, short-term program designed to fill entry-level production and technician positions in advanced manufacturing. Completed in nine months or less, the program prepares students for certification as a Siemens Certified Mechatronics Systems Assistant (Level 1). Graduates are skilled in operating complex manufacturing systems that integrate electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering with responsibility for their efficient operation and preventative maintenance.

Robotics and Automation Engineering has evolved around several engineering and technology fields such as electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical, as well as electronics engineering. It merges the fundamental principles of electrical hardware and sensor usage with pneumatics, hydraulics, computer programming and instrumentation science, and related applications.The Minor in Robotics and Automation (ROBT) introduces students to mechatronics engineering and prepares them for automation-related careers in process control, manufacturing, computerized hardware/software integration, and sustainable automated systems. It allows students to engage in real-life, industrial processes related to automation in an industrial robotics laboratory setting.

Community colleges and universities in Michigan have simplified the transfer process by developing Transfer Pathways. These pathways build on the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), which makes it easier for students to transfer their general education courses taken at Schoolcraft to participating four-year schools.

Job Corps’ OTP Advanced Manufacturing training program connects Job Corps students with other local training providers like technical or community colleges, trade schools or employers to provide specialized education and training services. Students learn skills like reading and understanding schematics and blueprints, positioning or aligning components and parts either manually or with hoists, using hand tools or machines to assemble parts, conducting quality control checks, and describing the commonalities and differences of the alternating current and direct current (AC/DC) systems (e.g., wire color codes in both). These skills prepare students for a career in manufacturing, production engineering and machine shops. Students who complete Advanced Manufacturing training at Job Corps can earn nationally recognized credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
You will learn various welding and pipe fabrication techniques in a setting similar to those found in real-world workplaces, preparing you to immediately enter the workforce.
Engine Management Systems
You’ll start off learning about basic electricity, then move into operating a digital multimeter to measure voltage, volt drops, resistance, and amperage. From there, you’ll progress to the starting and charging systems and learn how to diagnose existing problems; explore engine fundamentals; work with light-duty diesel aids; walk through how the lubrication and cooling systems work in the engine; cover engine component inspections and repair; and get prepared to take the Snap-On Meter certification. Throughout this course, you’ll get experience using the latest versions of shop information, including All-Data, Shop-Key, and manufacturer service information systems.

Drivability Diagnostics
In this course, you’ll gain experience on the tools you’ll be using for diagnostics throughout the Automotive program as a whole. Using the same tools and diagnostic equipment you’ll find on the job, you’ll perform detailed sensor diagnostics. You’ll also get to learn how to use lab scopes and scan tools to diagnose fuel and ignition systems, learn about electric and hybrid technology, and more.

Drivetrain Systems
You’ll start the course with a fully assembled automatic transmission, which you’ll immediately disassemble and spend the rest of your time learning how to put it back together correctly. Along the way, you’ll explore- differentials, drivelines, planetary gears; precision measuring instruments; torque converters, and removal and reinstallation of a front-wheel-drive transaxle. Upon completion of the transmission rebuild, you’ll dyno-test the transmission to ensure proper operation of all forward and reverse gears.

Chassis
Get to know everything underneath the vehicle. As part of this phase, you‘ll get into heating and air-conditioning systems, and you’ll learn how to work with R-12, R-134A, and newer 1234YF refrigerant systems. You’ll also get hands-on experience with brake systems, on-car brake surfacing with Pro-Cut equipment (and the ability to acquire a Pro-Cut On-Car certification), computerized four-wheel alignment, fasteners, steering and suspension systems, supplemental inflatable restraint systems (SIR), tires and wheel balancing, wheel bearings, traction control systems, and vibration analysis.
