Whether you're just getting started, switching careers or sharpening your skills, there are over 900 training programs across all 50 states to help you grow your career in shipbuilding — many that take less than 6 months to complete.
The program prepares students for entry-level positions in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and industrial plant maintenance. Students gain hands-on training in machinery, equipment operation, and workplace safety to support a variety of manufacturing and maintenance careers.
The Electrical Technology AAS Degree prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment and advancement inthe electrical field. Emphasis is placed on residential and commercial construction and maintenance applications. Curriculum coursework covers basic electrical theory, residential and commercial wiring, safety, the National Electrical Code, and blueprint reading. Students gain hands-on experience through laboratory exercises in the operation of electrical systems through fusion-splicing, mock wiring of commercial and residential systems. This program may be completed at the Harrisburg Campus through on-campus/inperson instruction.
This short-term certificate is designed to prepare individuals with employment skills necessary for a career in Pipe Welding. The program is competency based that includes both theory and hands on practical application-based instruction. Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding and cutting different types of materials. This is a career program designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Although some of the courses in this program will transfer to four-year institutions, this program is not designed to be a transfer program of study; therefore, it is not subject to the terms and conditions of Alabama Transfers state transfer and articulation reporting system.
The Machine Shop Technology program is designed to prepare individuals for employment in the industry as a machinist. Machinists produce precision metal parts, using machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, and milling machines. Also, machinists and tool programmers set up and operate a wide variety of machine tools, using their knowledge of the working properties of metals. They plan and carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications. Students in the Machine Shop Technology Program manufacture, assemble, and repair metal parts, subassemblies, and complete machines. Increasingly the machines used to produce these metal parts are numerically controlled and most of those are computer numerically controlled (CNC). Students in this program are required to participate in 3rd party credentialing such as (NIMS) and (NOCTI) activities prior to graduation. Program OverviewCareer OutlookCurriculum

This certificate program is designed to equip students with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to gain entry to the robotics field. Through a blend of classroom lecture and hands-on experience, students will learn electrical theory; how to install, program, or repair robotic controllers and related equipment; how to troubleshoot robotic systems; and how to perform preventive or corrective maintenance on robotic systems or components. This certificate is designed to prepare students for career success in robotics. The overall growth of the manufacturing industry and related fields will require a growing number of robotics technicians to install and maintain robotic systems and components. This program is a good fit for people who enjoy working with their hands, with an emphasis on spatial conceptualization and mechanical reasoning. Those who graduate with this certificate have a solid understanding of the machinery and equipment used in the robotics field.
The Electrical Systems Technology curriculum is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.Coursework, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, programmable logic controllers, industrial motor controls, applications of the National Electric Code, and other subjects as local needs require.Upon completion, students should qualify for a variety of jobs in the electrical field as an on-the-job trainee or apprentice assisting in the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems.
This program allows students to select course work necessary to become multi-skilled technicians in the field of avionics maintenance. All students develop skills that include installation and maintenance of aviation electrical and electronic systems needed to keep aircraft flying safely. In addition, students choose a secondary specialty focused either on aircraft assembly or aircraft maintenance.
